Hey, So after upgrading the gfx card to the 7900xt nitro+ pc has been mostly fine but in x4 and stalker 2 there are some times the very out dated xpu and ram struggle

Monitor is 1440p and I like to game at that.

Is the rest of the current spec

Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming G1-Wifi BK Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX324C11T3K216)

Ove got an m2 ssd i was going to put into my laptop but have decides it can go in the pc now instead.

psu is some 800w be quiet one can't find the details on it though.

Even before the gfx upgrade the mobo was on its way out with some shutdowns so will upgrade the lot now.

Is it worth spending the extra to get one of the x3d processors?

Budget wise it would be nice to get it all done for under 500 but flexible if there a serious jump in performance for not too much more.

any recommendations on what I should be looking at?

Something like this?

Cooler is optional (there's one in the CPU box).

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £494.96 (includes delivery: £3.99)

Thank you, mobo finaly gave up the ghost today. Just to check the processor and mobo will work together right away withoout flashing the bios first. Just seem some threads where people are saying certain mobos and amd cpus need a flash first

Yes, it will work.

Ryzen 7000 CPUs should work out of the box with any B650/B650E or X670/X670E motherboard.

Ryzen 9000 CPUs should work out of the box with any X870/X870E motherboard.

I think flashback is now mandatory on AM5 boards anyway, so you should be able to flash the BIOS without a supported CPU (if needed).

I concur with brother tetras the 7000 series was supported from first release.

I would be tempted to just get a 7600 for £180 and then upgrade to a x3d chip at a later date , especially when prices drop.

Brilliant thank you, I'm so out of the loop on everything now I saw those posts and thought since the pc had died now that I didn't want to risk having to go get bios downloaded from a mate or something to get started

So the 500 limit isn't a "thats all I can afford" it's just that the PC is purely a gaming thing for me and I don't want to waste money like if spending an extra hundred is going to get me way more performance or longevity then yea but I'm just not wanting to spend silly money for an extra few fps.

But I really don't know anything these days last amd I had was an athlon x64 i think lol

Your never going to get value for money moving up the costto performance levels, for example the 7800x3d is at least 100% more in terms of cost than the 7600/7600x but you would only gain 25% more FPS on average.

Though you would get better minimums FPS in the most demanding parts of the game making the game smoother/playable.

The x3d chips are stupid prices at the moment so the 76007600x £180 makes sense over the 7700 £260 to then upgrade to an x3d at a later date. New or used.

You could just take the plunge if you want but that's something you have to decide in terms of cost over performance but best to read some reviews.

Would advise you get a pcie4 m2 drive.

Great thanks i will google some benchmarks for the games I play.

Currently the pc has a Samsung SSD 870 EVO, 1 TB SATA in it but I have a Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 nvme m2 ssd to put in that was going to go into my old laptop but I don't use that much now.

Your welcome.

Something to note is that first boot on AM5 can take up to 15mins for anything to show on screen and may reboot a few times , this is because the motherboard is training the memory so be patient.

Enjoy.

I'd look at importing a 7500F for £100 and waiting for prices to become less insane on the X3D chips personally.

They're barely any slower than a 7600 and either would offer gigantic uplift.

Cheers good heads up people would have hard reset it wondering what was up with it.

And typically all the boards mentioned are now "preorder" or our of stock on ocuk
