CPU supports PC6400, I can acquire some PC8500 - will they work together?

Hi all,

my AMD 5600+ processor only supports PC6400 RAM, however I have access to 4 GB of free PC8500. Will they be compatible (maybe running at 800MHz instead of 1066MHz) or will it just not work. Motherboard will support the PC8500 fine. Will I need to do any bios tweeks?

I have a 6000+ and it only supports up to 800mhz. But my MoBo supports and my RAM is 1066mhz... It just ran the memory at 800mhz.

What I did later on was up the FSB/HTT of my CPU and lowered the CPU Multiplier. This made my RAM run at 1066mhz but left my CPU at stock speeds :)

I've tried doing this and couldn't get my system to boot. Perhaps I got my math wrong or my understanding of how to overclock RAM is completely wrong, can someone help me determine what my settings should be, please?

I increased FSB from 200 to 266 (my reasoning being that 1066MHz is 1.33x800MHz) and lowed the CPU multiplier from 14.5 to 11 (giving a cpu speed of 2926MHz instead of the standard 2900MHz. I also lowered the HT link to x4 instead of x5 so it was @ 1064MHz instead of 1000MHz.

Thanks in advance.
