cpu x motherboard compatibly rush job!

this is a asap question so any help would be most appreciated as its a friends kids xmas pc thats the issue

so motherboard is
gigabyte GA-H110M-DS2
(rev. 1.0)

cpu is i3-8100

mb is 6/7th gen, cpu is 8th, yet on more than one page their listed as compatible ie http://www.pc-specs.com/cpu/Intel/C...00_4-Core_3.6GHz/2512/Compatible_Motherboards

so are they mistaken or is it a bios update that enables this 8th gen use.

The compatibility list on Gigabyte's website for that model shows 6th/7th gen CPUs only. I'm guessing that the linked page is assuming that the socket compatibility is enough.

As far as I know, no manufacturer has issued a BIOS update for these CPUs yet (if Intel ever allows it).

That website is wrong. The only option for the Coffeelake (8000 series) cpu's at the moment is a Z370 board. It is absolutely pathetic that they still have not released any of the cheaper chipset boards yet
