Hi there,

Just brought a new house and have noticed that we have a two inch crack down the side of the bath.

Is there any way to fix this DIY style? I've had someone quote £75 to fix it, but would rather do it myself, if it is fairly straight forward.

Cheers

What caused the crack? Could be structually unsound.

You certainly wouldn't want the contents of a filled bath suddenly escaping into your bathroom. : )

I would just pay the seventy five Pounds, and have it done right. :)

me too, you can't mess around with something that has the capability to bugger up so much if it goes wrong

However if it's just the casing, it's easy enough to fix yourself.

fill the crack with epoxy glue / araldite from the under side, wait for it to set, lightly sand off any that comes thought to the inside of the bath.

Ive seen on some DIY show that you can sand baths down and paint a new layer on the surface. should make it look nice and new if its looking tatty. Dont know if it can be done to all types of bath tho.

EDIT: If it is just the square plastic casing that hides the feet and pipes i would rip it off and make a new one from wood. We did that to ours and it looked a lot better. (If thats in keeping with the style of the bathroom)

New house as in, newly built? If so the first two years are covered by the builders under the ten year NHBC guarantee, get them to replace it. If not, get if fixed (or even replaced) properly. Last thing you need is the contents of the bath released all over the place.

If you cover it in craploads of fibreglass on the bottom and resin it, then maybe apply some on the inside should be alright. Works on boats. :p

Thing is probably only made out of fibreglass anyway.
