Was browsing on my PC, went downstairs to fetch something and back up to a frozen PC, tried ctrl alt del but didn't work so just hit the reset button on my tower.

Now thething won't boot,it gets to the Win XP logo before just restarting itself. When trying to boot in safe mode it does the same and then produces a list full of .sys files in the format;

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk()partition(1)\Windows\system31\drivers\xxxxx.sys

No idea whats knackered, although I'm guessing its the harddrive.

So, any solution apart from reformating?

"The partition is either too full, damaged, not formatted or formatted with an incompatible file system. To continue installing Windows, setup must format this partition."

to take your mind of things for a little while here's a little reciepe for success:

ingredients:
grab yourself a seperate computer, one cd/rw, one hard drive, one boot disk and a whole load of patience.

Instructions:
a good boot disk can be found here: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

first write the disk to a cd

boot the cd on the broken hard drive comp

open the file explorer in the boot disk and see if it can see your hard drive.

if it does use seperate hard drive to copy files.

if it doesn't proceed to chuck said broken hard drive out of window.

gl ;)

Had a look through and ran the build and everything, unless I'm overlooking something dead obvious, I can't find a wayto copy the files with this PC which has a CD Rom drive/CD RW combo, instead of two seperate disk drives?
