Crashed my bike on hidden drain, who do I contact?

Uncalled for

We pay (not as a cyclist, but as a motorist) road tax and I EXPECT the roads and pedestrian paths to be up to standard. If they aren't, I either ;

a) expect compensation relevent to any injuries caused and costs incurred
b) my tax back!

Thank you Mr Name I will ritually fall on my sword for forgetting to add a smilie at the end of my post, as you will see I am the only person who has actually tried to provided the OP with the information he needs to do what he wants to do, will you forgive me? I do hope so.

Lighten up and get a grip. If you care so much then you report problems when you find them.

Agreed. The road was actually very new, so it was someone not laying it down properly rather than a pothole

Lighten up and get a grip?

Hope everyone dons the same attitude when encountering these problems, no wonder the country is in such a state.

So hangon, you pay taxes and expect the roads to be good - that's perfectly fair.

But then you want...your tax to pay compensation to you, and for your tax to be paid back, thus likely increasing the tax you'll pay next year.....all the while nothing being done about the original problem? Right. I see.

Yes. It makes perfect sense.

Honest.

Hmm after doing just over 400 miles on my bike in 2 months, the condition of the uk roads are utter pap.

I have learnt where every manhole, grid, pothole, uneven bit of tarmac is on my routes, some are half a foot deep and some manholes have sunk like a WW2 battleship.

I have bulked atleast 3 wheels on these crap roads, ok for cars and wagons pap for bikes.

Contact the guy who maintains the road surface then petrol bomb his house.

Reminds me when I crashed into a rabit hole. :( I was riding over the motorway on those bridges when a buggy appeared just as I was comming off so I decided to go on the grass as I was enjoy the speed. I then hit this hole and flipped over a few times then had my bike land on top of me :(

wtf?

I expect the roads to be of a standard that won't break my equipment, be it a car or a bike!

Of course i'm going to expect compensation of some sort should the flipping roads (that im directly paying for) be breaking my stuff! What do you expect me to do? Pay for it myself?

Yeah.

Honest.

I will do.

NOT.

I was just curious as to why you didn't put down complaining to the proper people to get the roads fixed.

I'm sure it's quite hard to have teams of people inspecting the roads 24/7 and hence letting the right people know about the problem is the best way to fix it, maybe then you could talk about part a) of your original post...but part b) is barmy if you really mean it.

It's not like they're huge companies trying to spend the least possible on keeping the roads in good condition in order to profit more....they're doing their job which is to look after the roads and if people poke them around rather than getting on their high "how dare physics and nature make a pothole" horse which costs more money which reduces resources which leads to more problems....

Also I should state that if you incur serious, life-changing injury then yes, you should seek compensation - I agree with that completely, for various reasons.

My first post was responding to someone who said it was ludacris to expect compensation, and to let it slide! I thought it was obvious from my post that I completley disagreed with that, and expected the OP to report and gain relevent compensation according to any injuries/damage to his possessions.

I never expected or expect the goverments to have highway patrol patrolling all highways 24/7 checking for damage. BUT I expect people to report accidents and gain damages from them should the roads not be suitable!

Anyway, talking about how much cash the goverment has for the roads is an entirely different thread... anyone who lives in stoke will know about the a500 and the roadworks down there.... whoever employed them fools and came up with the plans for that complete failure of a job needs shooting. I think i'd cry if I knew how much cash was wasted on labour (that seems to be taking forever) and materials on that particular job. The amount of time i've wasted sitting in that traffic....
