Hi - I'd appreciate some help - yesterday I fitted a new cpu to my motherboard - a gigabyte ds3 965p rev 1 - since then whenever I try to load a game, run a 3d mark benchmark, and so on, the computer crashes.
I've googled the error message codes to no help - windows error reporting describes them as a corrupted error report "they usually indicate a serious problem with your computer."
I've restored software wise to a previous date (yesterday windows xp downloaded some security bits) but it continues.
It always detects a new pci device on startup - but can't find the software and I can't work out what it is. I've got two devices an x-fi soundcard and an adsl modem. Both are fully working and reported as such in device manager.
I've reset the cmos etc.
I've put in old cpu back in and it's doing the same thing :(.
This makes me think that it might not be the new cpu (sourced from an internet auction site...), but that somehow during installation I've ballsed up the motherboard - possibly a short circuit, although I didn't notice any particular disasters while I was doing the swapover.
Any help really gratefully received.
Thanks.
