**CRAZIEST SSD DEAL YET: 120GB SSD ONLY £43.99 Inc. VAT!**

So, when I ordered these, I actually ordered 3.

Looks like I got 2 crappy ones and 1 good one.

This is a side by side comparison with good and crappy. Run on the same machine (HP Probook 4330s), same data on them.

Got mine yesterday and put it in my HP 311c.

Good new: disk recognized and OCZ bootable tool upgraded firmware from 1.35 to 1.37 with no issues. Win7 install went ok and boots up nice and fast (probably quicker than waking from hibernate with old HDD!)

Bad news: while catching up with the 3 years (?) worth of win7 updates it seemed to hang on one of the installs (became totally unresponsive to keyboard or "mouse") ... power-ed off and restarted and it boots but doesn't shutdown every time (hangs again).

As I was still doing the initial win7 install and setup then I think I'll start from scratch again and reinstall ... should I used the OCZ bootable CD and do a secure erase on the SDD to get it into a "clean state" or should I just tell win7 install to nuke the existing partition and rewrite on top of it

PS. Though whether you would notice any real world difference in day-to-day use is doubtful.

Well, I think this is true in so far as any noticing any real world difference between SSDs would probably be quite difficult. But I would contend that the kind of people who buy such things are the kind of people who would care about these differences.

On AS SSD score, you're talking about a 43% increase from the 107gb to the 111gb version (from my numbers above). In context, the increase from a Vertex 3's AS SSD score to a Samsung 830 is 46% (from the SSD MEGA TEST thread).

Totally agree :)

That would be my take on it as well.

Though obviously things need to be taken in context.
IE. It's basically the in-compressible writes that are hit in the NAND shrink. The compressible performance is pretty much the same between the two drives.

I personally think (and bear in mind I'm a bit of an OCZ fan... even accepting that they've had more than their fair share of "problems" at times) that they handled the move from 34nm NAND to 25nm NAND on these drives very badly. Even on the OCZ forums, a fair few of the die-hard OCZ fans there were not happy bunnies. Rather somewhat shot themselves in the foot me thinks. Only my personal opinion here ;) Got to admit, that I had pretty much forgotten about this until this thread kicked off.

Slightly better than when I benched it new/empty. Probably the later firmware, plus running Intel RST 10.5 now.

PS. To get the best 4k writes when benchmarking. Either disable Intel speedstep, or have something running in the background (EG. one Prime 95 worker) that forces your CPU to boost to it's max OC.

I have an Asus P7P55D PRO motherboard, can I install Intel RST 10.5 aswell to get better performance from this SSD?

Should not be a problem from what I can see.

Not guaranteed to give better performance though but worth a try. Just download the latest from Intel and install:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...="Intel+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel+RST)"

If you don't like them, you can simply uninstall them and the stock MS SATA drivers will be reinstalled.

My Vertex2E when it was being used as a boot drive, was running the stock W7 MS AHCI drivers and it was fine and so was the perforance (see an earlier post of mine on this thread).

Good luck.

anyone getting BSODs with these? Installed Win7 64-bit just fine, ran all updates but getting BSODs randomly. Cant see what the error is as it flashes up and is gone straight away before I can hit Pause!
Updated to latest Firmware too

Set Windows not to restart automatically (IE. so you can see what your BSOD is).. .
IE. Control Panel / system / advanced system settings / advanced / startup & recovery settings and untick automatically restart

Plus maybe check Event Viewer as well.

Ok new system and nothing from the SSD so its dead, just wondering how many others who ordered in this offer had to send theirs back?

Asking OUCK for a replacement as I want one to work and hoping I just have a rare buggered device!

From Toolbox FAQ:

WARNING:
1) Flashing your SSD should not result in data loss. However, OCZ recommends you back up your data as a precaution before proceeding.
2) OCZ Toolbox does not support firmware updates of SATA III SSDs that are running as the primary drive (Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Agility 3, Solid 3, RevoDrive 3, RevoDrive 3 X2, Octane, Octane S2, and Petrol). Please install the SSD as a secondary drive when updating the firmware. AN alternative firmware update method is utilizing a standalone Linux distribution (booting off the CD/USB) to update the primary SSD. See “Updating your firmware with a drive that cannot be updated as a primary drive” section for more details.
3) The SATA controller must be set to AHCI mode in the bios to utilize the Toolbox.
4) We recommend using Microsoft AHCI drivers for the Toolbox to be properly recognized.
5) Updating your firmware with the Toolbox is not supported under Windows XP.
6) Always download the latest OCZ Toolbox version from: http://www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/
7) An internet connection is required fro the firmware update.

The points that trip some people up I'v highlighted in bold.
