Creative XFi Xtreme Gamer - xtreme pants more like!

Never managed to get the mic working with my xtreme gamer. The front ports give terrible interference and I can’t get it to work with the rear mic port (the piece of **** flexijack thing). Currently got sound coming out of my Xtreme Gamer and the mic connected using the onboard sound, screwed solution but at least I can use my mic.

yes using onboard for mic too :/ which is a joke really.

I dont have a clue WTF Creative were playing at releasing more card models as they normally only have 2-3 models per series. (more sales probably as they really need them).

I think it is probably because when the X-Fi was originally launched (3 variants), there were no mainstream parts. Even the cheapest cost over £100 which was a helluva lot for a soundcard in the modern age when pretty much every mobo ships with onboard sound, some of which are half decent.

So after a year(?) or so they adjusted prices and brought out one or two new models to try and attract more interest from the mainstream sector. I think hardware manufacturers need to realise that aside from graphics cards, very few people will actually pay over a ton for an expansion card these days (hence PhysX cards dropping from ~£200 to £80 or so as well).

It has always been the same with Live 5.1, then audigy 1/2/4, they had about 3 models each and probably cost more then then today going by cost of living etc.

But as you said Onboard Audio got better but I had 5.1 onboard back then also.

Now i am going to try to stay calm... I consider myself an Xtreme Gamer.
Now correct me if i am wrong but its fairly safe to assume a large number of xtreme gamers use 4 gb of ram in there systems or plan to in the near future. And to get all 4gb of ram used in windows you have to use a 64bit Operating System. So that is what I have done.

Q6600 @ 3.2ghz - No voltage change (lapped The Ultra-120 Extreme)
Abit IP35 Pro
4gb Gskill ram
HD2900XT
Windows Vista 64
sound b_ _ _ _ _ _ (insert your own letters) X-FI Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Retail.

Fortunately I dont run Crossfire or SLI as there are wide reports of crackling when gaming with SLI and 4gb of ram. But what i do get is HUGE amount of noise when i speak on my mic using Ventrillo, Teamspeak 1/2 any mic application. I also occasionally get an Apache helicopter in my room when i speak. the sound is so loud it makes 24 of my friends throw off their headsets (i play WoW and raid in a high end guild with 25 ppl most nights). I then have to disable and re-enable the soundcard. (this is at least 8-20 times in a 3 hour period) I now no longer speak on the mic.

Now i have tried everything under the sun. Changed the SC to all other PCI slots. Disabled all other sound devices. Tried all drivers. Phoned creative numerous times over four months with nothing to show. Installed different versions of Ventrillo and changed codecs on ventrillo and teamspeak servers.

And ofc I resorted to forums, and on the OFFICIAL creative forums is a guy from Azuntech. A very nice chap who writes drivers. He is single handedly trying to save creative's ass and the gaming community that have problems. Azuntech use some of creative's chips but add their own high quality parts to their cards. So this chap is modifying Azuntech drivers for creative sound cards. Unfortunately the fix rate is hit and miss but some people have reported success.

This i find is totally unacceptable for a company as large as creative. Going by their record they will not release another driver update possibly for 12 months. So I have now no choice but to bin my £60 XFi XTREME PANTS sound card and get another one just so i can talk on skype out, ventrillo and teamspeak... What a joke.

I will NEVER EVER buy creative again. Stay well clear if your using 4gb of ram

Why not ! it's not the 4gb of ram, look @ my sig, Using my sound card with Vista x64, 4gb of ram, latest drivers, playing games, music & porn :D

Xtreme Gamer in my work machine on Vista64 with 8gb ram - it's fine.

My old Audigy 4 burnt up though.... Have added an old active heatsink to the xfi chip as I don't want this one to go phut either.

my sound works fine... i can hear the game properly, but any voice comms using a mic, Skype Ventrillo Teamspeak 1 and 2. Any mic related program / game then it goes belly up. and its fine with 3gb or 2gb ram.

i've resorted to using the Mic Input on my onboard soundcard Which i didnt want to because i prefer to disable the on board soundcard

Creative seems to have a knack for making some of the worst drivers.

When I bought my elite pro back when it first came out however, the story was different on xp 32. I couldn't fault the drivers at all. Though the soundcard cooked itself though and I had mine changed for one with the small heatsink on it (the heatsink was placed on them to make up for a lower quality process). It's been in about 4-5 boards and each one has a story to tell about problems since then. None are hardware related proving that the hardware is of good quality but the crappy software made my experience of xp 64 horrible, vista is just as bad. I'm stuck with 24bit @ 48khz in/out because I get the loudest screeching noise I've ever heard though my speakers/headphones on any higher resolution.
Make no mistake when this one quits the game I will not be buying another creative product again and will dash towards anything else but a creative, even onboard because they think the solution to the problem is to ignore the customer and have drivers written by a retarded gorilla.

Thank god vista has a new audio stack that kills off EAX (which I couldn't tell the difference with anyway) and more to come in dx10.1 :)

eh? EAX is a completely different and vastly superior sound to just normal sound

You need your ears cleaning out.

Well I cannot get mine to work at all - it's silly. My setup is as follows:

Q6600
Ibit Pro
4Gb OCZ
8800 GTX

Trouble I have is that I get constant static on windows boot up, take it out problem solved, remove 2gb of ram = problem solved as well. I would rather the extra 2 gig than the soundcard, so is currently being used as a paper weight :(

Any suggestions on what I can do to get it work?

I'm having problems too.

X-fi Fat with Vista-64.

Firstly the drivers won't install because they are not digitally signed and the device insn't even showing on device manager "No Audio Output Device Installed"

any ideas here - I'm out!

I have to say pretty much every xfi issue I had (Well only the odd pop every now and then) has vanished and I'm now on 4GB ram - it could not be any better on Vista !

expand because it's not working.

I can't even get the system to see that there is sound card fitted let alone the driver issues ??

Is this on 64bit? I've dreaded 64bit for a while now, will stay on 32 Vista for a bit longer I think
