Creative XFi Xtreme Gamer - xtreme pants more like!

eh? EAX is a completely different and vastly superior sound to just normal sound

You need your ears cleaning out.
Ok, I went ott about that bit but I really would like an open version of it to be released so everyone can have a bash.

However, eax is there to create more ambiance in games, smoothing the transition from place to place, you can't compare it to 'normal sound'.

expand because it's not working.

I can't even get the system to see that there is sound card fitted let alone the driver issues ??

I downloaded SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_15_0002 from here.

This one works perfectly for me on Vista 64 Ultimate, while the previous version would only work intermittently, requiring constant re-installation.

The fact that you're mobo's not detecting it doesn't sound good to me at all, (no pun intended, honest) for me the card was recognised once I started up after installation (Abit IP35 Pro).

What mobo are you using?

Same here the driver is working for me fine.

Have you made sure the card is plugged in properly, are you using the latest vista 64 drivers? If yes then try the card on another system maybe faulty card?

I slept on this . .this thinking exactely what you just said ..

So this morning I re-tried loading the driver..

For reasons unexplainned, I've got it working.. I did two things different:

1. I plugged in the speakers (they were plugged into the onboard sound whilst i tried them)

2. I said "yes" when prompted to install the game controller.

Anyway, after rebooting, I was actually quite pleased to hear the Vista intro :)

I did get the onboard sound working before hand but Bioshock had no sound. A well known problem by all accounts.

Anyway for now it working.. I was going to re-load the 32-bit version.

I had an X-Fi Fatalty, dunno what went wrong with it, but the rear channels were all distorted, so I thought it was my speakers, but in the end turned out that one day out of the blue, randomly, rear channels went distorted and something was wrong, so RMA'd, was all fine, then when I got an 8800GT and this mobo based on Nforce4, I started to notice that dreaded snap crackle pop :(. sold it in the end.

Mine is still busted, am running windows 64-bit!

If I install the card, I just get static on windows boot up screen and sometimes lots of random errors relating to things not working etc. I am currently using the onboard sound on my i-bit pro, but want to use my bloody X-FI GAMER!!!!!!!

btw i have also tried the early set of drivers same problem, although what does happen is i can install the drivers and it will work fine in windows and games, but when i restart the PC i get the static :(

I've got similar problems running 4GB ram and vista x64 mate.

A reboot is what seems to fix mine though and it's only occasionally that the mic output gets raped

Ive been all set to get a Fatal1ty premium but after reading about all these snap, crackle and pop issues am now reluctant to do so.

A shame really.

Do these issues effect ALL x-fi cards or just some, i.e, does the Fatal1ty have the same issues?

Not sure mate, tbh there is loads of info / posts on the creative site about 4gb ram and creative cards. I might try and play with it again, but everytime I do, something else ***ksup:(

Gimpymoo, that's exactly what I was getting, have a look at post #42 above, click the linky and download SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_15_0002 - solved it for me on Vista 64 Ultimate with 8GB ram.

did i not read somewhere in these forums that you could use the auzentech driver software with the creative cards.

Yes, below is a link to creative forums and the Windows Vista section. There is a guy called Daniel_K. Whom i think works for azuntech at least he knows his way around their drivers.

http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board?board.id=Vista

His latest drivers include:

X-Fi drivers to correct issues with 4Gb RAM based on Prelude's latest drivers (09/27/07)

New Audigy driver: 4Gb RAM, EQ, Stereo Surround, Louder volume, Audio Center (10/21)

X-Fi driver v2.14.0001.36 based on Dell WHQL driver (supposed to fix 4Gb RAM issues) Also strange why only OEM users are getting updates..

Its really embaracing for Creative imo. Creative release a new driver on Oct 1st but 6.1 surround sound doesnt work. Daniel_K got it working in less than 3 weeks in his own time.. Creative must hire like a part-time one handed hamster to write their drivers or something

Yeah I stumbled across that forum, and tried them drivers, I had to end up reinstalling Vista, I have now decided that I am unable to get this pieace of junk to work with my current setup.

I will list it on ebay, with xmas almost here i think i will get a decent soundcard, can anyone recommend one for me, that supports 7.1 and that I will notice a difference compared to my onboard abit pro sound.

Cheers,
Lea

p.s it has to work with Vista 64-bit, 4gb ram, is that really toooooooooo much to ask????

I can confirm the latest drivers DO work with vista 64and 4GB ram, but I too had a few problems.. In fact it took me a whole evening to sort out and i'm still unsure as why they decided to work.

The last time I tried, I removed all previous drivers, disabled on-board sound, Attched the speakers, reinstalled the drivers using admin.. then see yes to install EVERYTHING.. It then worked.

these cards seem to be a bit hit and miss and the moment.. but it's down to poor driver support.
