Crimson Desert - Not an MMORPG…anymore

I watched one of the previews which was 10min long and it actually made me wanna watch the 50 min one....

Basically if you like zelda. This your type of game!

I liked breath of the wild. I did not like the one they made after. So will have to wait and see.

29 mounts is awesome. We all know and have seen the dragon - there are more species out there afaik. I’ve seen a wolf mount too. Edit. And of course a horse.

Main complaints I see from the demos is:

* complicated controls, however the game is easy and you can just button bash to victory so you don't need to engage with the controls

* obscure and complex menus and UI, simple things are hidden behind layers upon layers of menus

* visuals are over stimulating

* quests are basic fetch this, kill this

So basically, everything you’d expect from a game that was originally meant to be an MMO and made by an MMO dev.
I for one am shocked.

This is certainly something. I’m too old for menus like that.

I don’t know where this is from as haven’t caught up yet on everything but this is interesting.
It was also here that Crimson Desert's vast size became abundantly clear. I opened my menu to be greeted by a knowledge library.

There were precisely 2,921 pieces of knowledge to be found, with a library that could be filled by finding crafting recipes, speaking to residents, and generally exploring the world. It teased 573 different territories, 110 factions, 355 crafting manuals, and 29 mounts. This is all alongside the bounties, side quests, of which there were 63 in the first town, and the main story. Crimson Desert is a big game.
As it's in the same world as Black Desert Online, I'm not too surprised about the massive knowledge library as the lore of the world is immense.
BDO had some really interesting lore that was well thought out and deep, however the dialogue and quests did a poor job of portraying all that lore so it takes a bit of work to piece it together.

Im watching this.

So far its mind blowing and im about to pre order this.......

Honestly...I dunno if they're playing on lower end hardware or something but it looks almost as if the lighting is very simple. It doesn't need to look amazing or anything but the lighting is...I dunno, it's most striking on the grass which just seems completely unlit, there's something about it where I look and just immediate it's jarring to me.

I think it's lack of self shadowing on some objects or something. Like objects cast shadows on each other, but not on themselves in the details. Like what in the fallout-nuclear-green-glowing-hell is going on here with these cabbages? They model themselves looks 100% unlit, but they cast a shadow on the ground. This looks how geometry looked when I was mapping in UT2004 days and I go into the editor and disable lighting on a model. Why would you show people this?

This is why this one is a wait and see when it releases.

I'll play it simply because it's pushes some technical boundaries but could be one to wait a bit for bugs and price drop.

I also find the theming a little strange as it mixes steam punk/fantasy/futurism in one package.
I've watched several videos and can't quite figure out what kind of game it is supposed to be. Looks ambitious so thumbs up for that but I did read about it (not on here) of it having RDR2 levels of scope. Its a wait and see for me.

I don’t think the game even knows what it’s supposed to be, but I’m still looking forward to it. Although the controls look mind boggling for a predominantly KB&M use like myself.
