Ballistix 2x1gb PC2 6400 C4 crap overclocks
Just bought the above kit because of the rave reviews and assumed it uses the famous micron D9 chips. I bought it to replace my corsair xms2 which clocks to 970 at c5 as I wanted 1000+.

Well after playing about with these for ages they won't go above 900 at cas5 and 880 at c4. Tried voltages from 2.2 to 2.5 but no difference loosened timings to 5 5 5 15 as well:confused:. Anybody else had clocks this bad with these? Ran memtest at 800 with no errors so ram is ok.

mine have done 1050 with 5-5-5-18 and 2.2volts so can't understand why not - each set is slightly different but generally they should reach at least 900 i would have thought.

:p these are mixed sets of 5300 and 6400 ...so I don't know what the problem with yours is

one thing to watch with memory clocks - its very "mode" and sometimes even CPU dependant ...

for instance I can run

1060 CAS 5 @ 2.0V

but using 4:5 divider on my P5B, at higher fsb, 940 MHz CAS5 needs 2.15 V !

same as when I go down to 8 divider for CPU, ie fsb is higher

880 CAS4 needs 2.125V wheras on x9 divier it would be much less

so this is something to watch out for

you can see the difference really when you do sisoft memory tests, 800MHz CAS5, at say 300 fsb is quite a lot slower than 800MHz CAS5 at 401 fsb

i just got shipped a replacement set of z503's (1gig/ddr1 pc4000) which are utter dogs (struggling to do 243 3-3-3-8 with sub timings worth having).. i wonder if crucial have been working a lot of friday afternoons recently.

it does happen - my first set did upwards of 280mhz 3-3-3-8 with the best subtimings i could set :/. just hope for them to die soon so you can rma and get another (hopefully better) set.

some people have been known to rma things when they aren't completely happy with the particular batch for whatever reason.
