Hey Guys (First post!)

I'm in the process of writing a shopping list for a new rig here on OcUK, and have seen this memory on offer at what seems like a great price...

Anyone got this kit? A good performer? There seems to be mixed reviews on the Ballistix sticks so I was after a quick opinion really. Also....

My plan would be 4GB of this on this motherboard:

Its not on the Qualified Vendors List - does this matter? Anybody running this setup?

Any help would be great! :)

I notice OcUK have dropped the price of this memory for this week.
However I expect you've seen it even cheaper today as I have (annoyingly, as I paid a lot more for mine).
At the price it is currently available for I personally think it's a bargain.

I've got 4GB of the Ballistix PC2-8500 running on my Gigabyte P35-DQ6 and the stuff is great, really can't fault it.
I'm seeing various posts about the stuff failing - there will be an amount of failing modules by any manufacturer.
There have been a lot of these modules sold which means the percentage of failure is probably no higher than any others.

Cheers stoofa,

Yeah, plus i guess as with many things.. people will happily rant about a product which has failed on them, rather than take the time out to sing its praises...

I've always bought Crucial stuff and never had a problem with them..

It seems like a good time to buy RAM though? I was reading a post about memory prices potentially on the rise again? Also, about the QVL, is your RAM on your Mobo's?

The PC8500 Ballistix is meant to clock sky high. Over 1200mhz is being seen quite regularly.

That and Crucials sublime RMA service makes it a very good choice.

And it works fine in the Gigabyte P35 boards.

The "Official" list of memory for my board doesn't list that many Crucial parts at all to be honest.
Also under the 1066MHz modules there aren't that many at all - probably due to there not being that many on the market when the list was first made.
Saying that - I've not heard of a motherboard yet that the Ballistix RAM hasn't been happy in.

Memory is nice and low price wise at the moment so it's certainly worth buying at the moment.
I've honestly given up trying to second guess memory prices - I made some good investments with some Geil PC2-800Mhz modules but didn't do so well on the Crucial :)
