I was going to grab a Crucial M550 256GB in the next few weeks but maybe this would be a better option.

Twice the space for about £50 more. Are these drives faster than an M4?

And how do they compare speed wise to the Crucial M550?

Anandtech says they are as quick if not quicker - same controller, different NAND. Think longevity is meant to be marginally worse but for consumer workloads they are more than good enough (Samsung TLC is the worst in this regard but still plenty for anyone at home)

It is for price/performance! :)

There are quicker if you are willing to pay more per GB though.

Well I currently have a 120Gb M4 which is great and I'm happy with speed. I've just run out of capacity.

I was going to pick up a Crucial M550 256GB but it would only have left me with about 100Gb after windows install and restore of the games I have.

So a 500gb drive for a little more is a much more appealing proposition.

I know there are faster drives, but they are more expensive and as long as the Mx100 is faster than my M4 I dont think it's a bad move?

Definitely faster than an M4, especially a 120GB version which won't be as fast as a larger drive (these things get speed through parallelism)
