Here is a new range of SSD from Crucial with 4 different drive sizes for all your needs. From the Entry level 120GB through the 250GB and 500GB tio the big daddy 1TB drive. Plenty of speed to go with that size as well. These are aimed at the consumer and don't have the speeds of the MX100 or M550 range. These are replacing the MX100 as entry level units. The M500 and M550 ranges will be going to be replaced later.

Boot up almost instantly. Load programs in seconds. And accelerate demanding applications with ease. It all starts with ditching your hard drive.

The storage revolution that started in 2008 with our first SSD continues with the new Crucial® BX100. Engineered to outperform a hard drive and deliver cost-effective performance, the Crucial BX100 leverages advanced flash memory technology and moves your computer beyond the outdated storage limitations of spinning discs. By transmitting data in a digital manner rather than having to seek it out on a spinning platter, the Crucial BX100 makes nearly everything on your computer faster and more efficient.

Over 15x faster than a typical hard drive
Get more done in less time – or just have more fun. The Crucial BX100 SSD is over 15 times faster than a typical hard drive and delivers true 535 MB/s sequential reads on both compressible and incompressible data. By treating all data the same, the Crucial BX100 allows you to do everything quickly, regardless of whether you’re saving an image, accessing a ZIP file, or loading a video.

Over 2x more reliable than a typical hard drive
Protect your data by storing it on the Crucial BX100, which is significantly more reliable than a typical hard drive. In the computer industry, storage drive reliability is measured in mean times between failures (MTBF). Most hard drives have MTBF ratings of 0.6 million hours, whereas the Crucial BX100 has a reliability rating of 1.5 million hours. In practical terms, the more reliable your drive is, the less likely it is to crash.

Nearly 2x more energy efficient than a typical hard driveRun your system longer and harder – using less power. With Extreme Energy Efficiency technology, the Crucial BX100 is over 90% more energy efficient than a typical hard drive. Since SSDs access data digitally rather than seeking it out on a spinning platter, they consume significantly less power.

Better value than a typical SSD
Get more out of your system – without compromising quality. At speeds up to 535 MB/s, the Crucial BX100 SSD isn’t the fastest drive on the market, but that’s squarely our intent. We painstakingly engineered the Crucial BX100 to provide a massive performance boost, while also delivering an unrivalled value among SSDs. Make the switch to the Crucial BX100 and get everything you expect from a Crucial SSD at an unexpected value.

Not trying to be a jerk, but...

It's slightly better than the M500 which costs the same, it's on par with the MX100 which costs slightly less, and it's noticeably slower than the M550 which is a bit more expensive.

Is this just Crucial bringing out a new model for the hell of it? It doesn't seem to offer any improvement over it's predecessor (maybe it's lowered production cost so more profit or something /shrug).

I am sure this is just release pricing. we will see some drops coming soon. The dollar rate has played a big part in not making them as attractive as they could have been.

If you want higher performance the MX200 range has also been released

Hopefully OC can get competitive with the pricing, because at that (launch) price they aren't so attractive, especially with £115 MX100's still fresh in people's memories.

I sometimes wonder if launch prices are set artificially high so that less scrupulous retailers that Overclockers can sell the products at a discount.. Just nip over to larger well know ones and see things like NOW ONLY £ 80, was £ 100, when everybody has been selling at £ 80 or less for months...

Not sure how they are gonna place these drives in the market as you can easily find budge 120GB drives for 40 odds. Way too expensive for what they are though it is launch price ...
