Hi guys

Having a few problems running Crysis in anything like acceptable detail for my system and also experiencing crashes. I would really welcome some ideas.

System is not same as sig (need to update):

Q6600 @2.4GHz
4GB Corsair
768mb BFG 8800GTX OC2 (using the 169.01 betas)
128mb BFG PhysX (don't think this is used)
Windows Vista Ultimate x64

Basically I know there are people out there with similar if not identical systems who are posting here saying it is running sweet as. For me it's pants so would love to know if anyone has any ideas. Playback of cutscenes and gameplay is very slow. I have been trying to play it in 1920x1200 with all eye candy on which I have been led to believe from other posts should be possible. The other problem I am having is that those issues are only if I click the x32 .exe; if I click the x64 it will not load beyond the first screen. When playing the x32 version on lower res where it is a little more playable it only lasts for about 10-15 mins before I get a BSOD. Is it the beta nVidias that are letting me down? The are the ones linked off fileplanet recommended for the demo.

Thanks for the replies. Really have no intention of dropping a fully paid up copy of Ultimate x64 in order to run x32 just for one game and same goes for switching back to XP. I will however get stuck straight into trying out the new drivers when I am home tonight and change the shader settings. Thanks again.

I'm going to say it's down to a driver problem, possibly for the graphics card, cause theoretically your system should storm through crysis, even on High settings.

That or somehow Vista has some performance issues with crysis. I am led to believe people with Vista arent getting any benefits over XP users though, going by threads on crysis I have read lately.

If my system can run it on high, and with most of the Very high tweaks enabled, yours most definetly should.

Try various driver versions, I had to upgrade my drivers in order for the game to even display any graphics properly...So try older versions and new versions, see what happens :)

Just remember to remove all the old driver directories and everything properly each time....It may take longer but hey it's worth it to keep conflicts aside.

Thanks Delvis. Is something like driver cleaner the easiest to use for clearing out old drivers? Luckily this is a fresh install and only had one other set on prior to the current betas I am running. If someone has a guide to cleaning out drivers in the best way I would be really grateful.

I would normally un-install the normal way, ie use the dedicated un-installer icon...Or use the add/remove programs wizard. Then use driver cleaner (the free one...)...Then after that go and manually delete the folders. I only run driver cleaner just to double check everything is removed normally :)

After that I may even run something like Hjack this just to get rid of any old Registry settings that may be lurking around

But to be fair just the removal of the drivers should be fine, as your installing drivers for the same card, rather than changing brands. (AMD/ATI to Nvidia etc)

He's running at 1920x1200 though.

I assume with that graphics card you're not?

No...cause I don't have a stupid widescreen monitor...Then again I shouldn't say that each to they're own and everything :)

I use 1280x1024 though if its of any interest. Which isn't exactly a 'low' resoloution.

Yeah the switching of brands is something I have done in the past and really does tend to leave a mess in its wake. Will give it a go when I am home tonight.

I'm not saying you have a crap card or use a low res or anything, just that even though he has a faster card, 1920x1200 is a lot more pixels to render than 1280x1024. :)

So while you might be able to run it on high at that res, it takes a lot more power to do the same thing at 1920.

I think that made sense...

i had the same problems with my rig and found a post somewhare that said to force vsync, thread optimisation and tripple buffering to on in the profile and all runs well.

still only running on one card at the moment but i get just above 15fps with everything on very high at 1680x1050

this is to run the x64 version of Crysis

One other thing to check is to ensure you have the latest DX build, each release of the SDK we have received we had to update DX9 for, not sure how that translates to DX10 and Vista Ultimate but it may help.

Thanks a lot for these replies guys. Given me plenty to try before giving up on this game before it starts :p

these days...yeah it is lol

Not really...If you choose to run the game at a stupidly high resoloution, then that's your fault in my opinion, if you choose to buy a monitor that has a native res of 1900x1200 or something similar (yes I know that isn't a valid resoloution) then your bound to put a lot of strain on your hardware...It's common knowledge I'm affraid. :)

@ Dingleberry88: Yeah made perfect sense, wasen't having a go or anything :)

I personally Don't see much point going above 1280x1024 on my monitor, it just causes unneccesary strain on the hardware which I have. Even If I went upto the next resoloution up, I wouldn't see much difference, cause I'm too busy trying to pop someones head off, not look at the crab run away from the faint outline of a cloaked super soldier

I have simular specs to you Q6600 8800GTX 4GB and its not hard for this game to bring it to its knees with everything on Very High setting with say 4XAA, I get 13FPS with them settings>

However if I drop Shadows to medium and Post Processing to medium (enable sunbeams in CVar) with everything else on Very high with 4XAA I get a respectable playable 23FPS. With this you get very high shaders which will include all the graphics at their greatest and sunbeams.

yes, it is. its a fact. 1280x1024 is the resolution on a 17" lcd. things have moved on since then, and so have the graphics cards powering these pc's. i bet my gtx is jsut as happy at 1920x1080 on my 40" sony as your card is at 1280x1024. the only difference is, mine looks a damn sight better.

most peoeple have bigger monitors than you. or do you think anything you dont agree with is null and void.....?
No...cause I don't have a stupid widescreen monitor...

...........because it sounds like it.

Stop being a moany git  Quite frankly.

I've got a 19" CRT, it does it's job, and looks nice in every game. Like I said, if people want to use mahoosive monitors It's upto them =/...I don't see an issue there. But if your going to run it at a high resoloution expect your hardware to be strained...Even if it is 'top of the line'. :)

(I was going to quote you here, but I really can't be bothered, trying to help someone, and all I get is an earfull. Lovely)

@ -BA- - When you get a chance, try different driver versions, see if that helps matey, worth a shot at the end of the day. And sorry for going off topic, some people just amuse me.
