Crysis2 Demo is coming to PC now!

Crysis bored the hell out of me from the moment I began playing it, even before the alien bits, it even looked rubbish visually. Yet Bad Company 2 SP mode looks far better in the graphics front.

You must have been playing it on low! Even as someone who disliked the first game surely u can accept the visuals are still stunning? Yes the jungles do look very similar to BC2, somehow Dice managed to get it to run smoothly tho :p

Oh please everyone shut up. Your opinions are pathetic :)

Crysis was great visually at the time. You seem to be forgetting the year it was released.. It was the greatest thing to happen to PC gaming in a long time - so we just slate it and critise it? We want the market to GROW so that the tech in our PC's is used more EFFICIENTLY

Crysis was not efficient with its rendering.

My hope is that Crysis 2 on the new engine runs FASTER and can keep the same looks.

Imagine 120fps Crysis with reasonable AA at 1920. It'd be a dream to play just for the visuals alone.

The gameplay physics were breakthrough on release too. Half Life 2 opened a door to Physics that Crysis dived straight into. Appreciate the time spent on making a demanding high res game.

And stop with the Xbox/PC comparisions... THERES NO COMPARISON. 360's are £80 second hand. Tell me where you can get an £80 second hand computer that can produce graphics Xbox+? Nowhere.

I wish I had £1 for every time I'd heard/read that. Or even 10p, I'd still be having to choose which Ferrari to drive on a morning ;)

I dont buy it, I really dont.

There's so much going on in Crysis, the environments are still better, more realistic and more destructible than anything else I've seen on PC!

Name one other game where you are in the middle of a firefight with 1/2 the forest falling about around your ears as you shoot it... all of that needs serious CPU/GPU.

Crysis was released before the hardware of the day was truly ready for it. I hope Crysis 2 isnt a backwards step for Crytek.

I think Bad Company 2 has a comparible destructable scenery feel to it.

Nevertheless. In my opinion. Take something like Half life 2 - runs on pretty low hardware. Yet looks still out-weigh consoles by a long shot.

I think we'll find more efficient ways to handle enviroment processing as things move along. Crysis felt like a beta to me in that respect. Not to mention the multiple bugs that occurred on release (wasn't the norm back then)

I feel they designed the foundations upon a relative graph. If hardware is capable up the texture quality. But it got to the point where they were shooting in the dark. Not having the hardware available but still informing the engine to increase pol count. Where as I feel the method can be achieved in a more roundabout way. For EXAMPLE: Upping polygon count on a certain draw distance. Much like ATI done with their tesselation - massively reduced GPU usuage remaining nigh-on unnoticable.

I feel Crysis ditched these optimisations because it was unable to predict the direction of the GPU market.

Hopefully it makes sense to you.. it does to me. And it's why I believe we'll see a game come out that will really optimise PC GPU/CPU ability using loops/requires/refs rather than educated assumptions.

PS: The irony was summed up in my smiley.

I fired this up last night for a playthrough and I thought exactly the same. My laptop handles it beautifully and considering it's 6 years old, it still looks better than some of the tripe released today.

Iirc I was running Crysis with some features one setting below max, so I think thats the High setting? Either way it was on a 3.7ghz E6600 with an HD4870 at the time, which was 'good' hardware then. When Huts were blown up, it just didn't look all that to me.

By contrast Crysis Warhead (which I loved) on the same hardware flew. I guess the engine was optimised better at the time.
