Current state of 3D TV's

Which tv was it Johny?

I bought SONY BRAVIA KDL-32EX723 Full HD 32" LED 3D TV and BDP-S780 3D Blu-ray plus the glasses.

For good 3D you need bigger than the 32 incher i bought but my sets is for a small bedroom so i couldnt go larger.

Ive just ordered Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D (Blu-ray as i like the res evil movies and want to see what its like in 3D.

Can any of you guys reccomend some must buy 3D titles please ive got THOR and Toy story 3 and res evil is ordered.;)

Avatar is probably the best one, the shrek collection in 3D is also very good, Megamind 3D.

Havent watched much else as i dont have a 3D tv.

Sadly cant get 3D Avatar anywhere except ebay, if you are willing to be ripped off you can get one for £40-£50. Cant fathom the film and tv industry who are trying to push 3D and then make one of the best 3D movies unavailable, beggars belief.:(

Tv finally turned up then rolypoly ;) i'm still deciding on a tv. This Sharp does sound decent from what you say, a few have recommended the Panasonic TX-42ST30 which does look good but is £50 more. I'm still not sure about 3d.

Yes finally turned up, got a discount and free premium delivery for my troubles, so probably worth the hassle in the end. Those Panny's do look good and I seriously considered 3 or 4 different models but decided I wanted LCD and not Plasma. Dont get hung up on the 3D, remember the Tv will still do excellent 2D and regard the 3D as a bonus. One thing I liked about the Sharp was the 3D glasses, say there are 3 or 4 of you watching 3D but you get tired of it or say a headache, with the Sharp 3D glasses there is a switch on the glasses to revert to 2D, meanwhile your friends or family can continue watching in 3D, neat feature I thought. I'm ok with the active glasses thankfully and have had no problems with prolonged viewing so far. I can only recommend to folks if buying a new tv you might as well get one that does 3D and if you dont like it then watch 2D, simple really.:D

Because Panasonic paid a fortune for time limited exclusive rights to it and the studio know that once it runs out they'll still make an absolute fortune releasing it for a third time!

I've not looked at a 3d tv long enough to determine whether passive or active is better for me. Would hate to buy a tv and find out active gives me headache or eyestrain like some people get. And like you say roly i'm seeing 3d as a bonus rather than a must buy feature, but i know for a fact even tho 3d isn't a high priority in a purchase, if i bought a tv without it i'll wish i'd got one with it lol.

Yeh I read about that Panasonic deal and I believe it ran out on 31\3\12 after an extension, so where is Avatar 3D and why are they holding back making it available.

We have a Panasonic Viera VT20 50" in our house and honestly Avatar 3D is really, really good. It's a shame, i think 3D could have gone a lot better if the film industry started using it creatively (like in the beginning scene of Avatar in the spacecraft, extending far into the background when the soldiers are being woken up) rather than scripting scenes which are obviously for the gimmicky 3D "in your face" effects.

Another good film to see in 3D would be the third Transformers film (Dark of the Moon), while the film as a film is fairly horrific the effects budget does do a bloody good job.

I am a big fan of 3D, I think I have in excess of 60 3D Blurays at the moment.

If it's filmed properly, then it looks amazing. The conversions are generally sub standard (unless CGI cartoon), the worst being HP7 Parts 1 and 2 which has shockingly bad 3D.

Football looks good as well, the depth it adds feels like you are actually pitchside.

It'll be yonks before we start getting a worthwhile amount of 4K content. The next big step for me will be flat panel tvs that can match CRTs for picture quality, motion handling and response.

i sat and watched a movie with my son the other week on my old sony wega CRT as our lounge was being redecorated. i forgot how good those crt screens were. that TV is in our bedroom and normally only gets used for some adult viewing with or without the mrs

CRTs are the best, they were going to make a comeback but nothing came of it, they were going to mount the CRT sideways
