Hey, I like the idea of 285mm brakes on my clio so it will look better, perform better and be ready if i decide a 1.8 16v conversion.

Basically I'm going to get:

Renault 21 Turbo calipers
R21 TXi 285mm brake disks
Custom Bracket

Where could I get this bracket made cheaply though if that's possible

Thanks.

are the clio brakes the same fitment as the Reno 5 turbo? if so u can buy a 285 kit which have that bracket in it + the discs from somewhere like Ktecracing.co.uk (not sure if thats the link google ktec).

AmDaMan - just get valver calipers/discs - far less effort and they stop plenty good for your Clio. :)

Yup I'd just do that with some braided hoses, or if that fails, K-Tec do a Fast Road / Big Brake Kit (285mm) for the Mk1 for like £250. :D

Hey up.

Lowe - I know it's less effort but i've got some time in summer so just feel like doing it :D Plus they will look far better behing my 17's and can get the calipers, disks and pads cheap as my gf's dad works at a motorfactors, so might as well :p

Yeah Ktec do the 285mm straight conversion but as Lowe said in another thread it's not worth the money they are charging. They are bog standard 19 calipers with a special bracket and carriers btw nothing special.

how much were they to make for you?

One thing to remember - since you're using different calipers, you'll need to check that the caliper won't drain your master cylinder. If it does you'll brake the first time you push the pedal, but the second time the pedal will hit the floor...

Seriously - the Valver brake system is the one to go for.

I'll keep in mind the master cylinder fluid, but i doubt it's going to be a problem. Is the 16v master cylinder the same as the 1.4?

I may well end up going for the 16v if this bracket is too expensive or can't be made.

Why would you pic the 16v setup over the other one though? Just the ease of it?

ta.

Yes - hence why I keep recommending it! The other problem is sourcing TXi brake discs and pads in the future. They're hardly a popular car right now, let alone in a few years time.

Valver stuff will always be easy to get since they're a much more popular car with aftermarket 'potential' for companies so you can get fancy discs etc.

Don't discount the master cylinder issue. When I put Valver stuff on my RT the pedal did drop a little which suggests a slightly bigger MC on the 16v, but without looking I couldn't tell you.

ok I'll see what simon says about this bracket 1st

The 21 stuff seems popular on eurocarparts etc, heck they are even selling them new disks ect on ebay

Edit: the 16v cylinder is the same as the 1.4

If thats happening its probably a good idea to start doing up that bleed nipple :p

ahh I was going to post em :p

I just need to know a few things. What does the bracket actually do? Will the calipers use the same bolts as the existing calipers?

List:

21 Turbo Calipers
Existing Bolts (?)
21 TXi Disks
21 Turbo Pads
These Brackets

What else will I be needing?

Cheers.

Hi, right finally got the calipers:

Think i've got a problem though, one of the calipers wont 'slide' does that mean it's siezed or something? I mean it looks all fine to me. The other one slides freely and both of the bleed nipples are ok.

Also when I put the pads and everything in it looked like there wouldn't be much room for the disk (especially a new one!) and i'm sure it's the right disk(285x21mm 4 stud).. what's that all about?

thanks.
