hi guys,

thinkin about getting one of these for christmas.. main use will be to listen to five live sports extra when not at the computer... anyone recommend me a good starter model?

Im in Northern Ireland.. are DAB channels accessible worldwide?

Any info would be appreciated

I would double check if your area can get a dab reception first before bying one as i know that certain areas in the UK such as Cornwall as very poor or no signal for the digital channels

You can check your DAB coverage here http://www.bbc.co.uk/digitalradio/

I have a DAB, a dodgy Ferguson FRG-100 stereo DAB/FM jobber. Whilst I admit that some of the radio stations are very good (Planet Rock for starters!) overall it isn't as good as the hype says. Occasionaly the signal will just stop or force the radio to do an auto re-tune. Avoid BBC Asian and 1Xtra as they will do your nut in after about 1 minute. :)

i've got a "bug" (these ) and all i can say is that it's fantastic! i've never had any problems with reception, even in my office with the tons of computer equipment. sportsextra is excellent for the cricket, bbc7, oneword, 6 music, xfm are all good stations at different times of the day. i'd get one!

thats what i've got, i had it for christmas a couple of years ago - it's been brilliant - no qualms with it at all
i'm now looking at the much smaller, portable DAB radios, they seem to have them around for about £50 but they're also small enough to stick in a bag if you want to listen on hoof

Yes I live in Cornwall and 5 live is not yet available so I haven't bothered with DAB.

I also have a 'bug' and it has been very good, i listen to it everyday.

1xtra is the best station on DAB!

I'm sure you meant to say Planet Rock?

I have one of these in my car. Can pop SD Cards in it too. Very handy.

The reception is excellent until I get within 5 minutes of my house, then it cuts off. Very annoying when listening to the cricket.

All BBC stuff is really good tbh.

My local large consumer electronics place were doing manufacturer refurbished DAB radios a little while ago. Full manufacturer's warranty and everything. They had Pure ones there, and some other makes, much cheaper than normal. Pure do a small ipod like model.

I have one of those Pure Talksport jobbies, and very good it is too. I chose it, because it's portable enough and can be battery operated. It also has the Intellitext feature.

Reception in my area wasn't available until a few months ago, but now it's fine :)

thanks for all the links guy.. did a check on bbc website and apparently i can get all the bbc services in my area so shouldnt be a prob.. it is mainly for the cricket il be using it!

Will report back if i get something sorted.. cheers

I use a Freeview box for radio, connected to my stereo.

Same, unfortunatly doesn't pick up Planet Rock so am stuck with the distinctly average Kerrang! radio.

cheers for the replies tho the ones u mention wont really fit in my pocket lol. Anyone here recommend any decent pocket sized ones?
