£266.40 rebate for ... im guessing its due to wage changing 3 times in the past 8 months ... very nice tho.. a couple of new front tyres me thinks :D

Hijacking this thread slightly, apologies to the OP but does anyone know roughly how long the HRMC take to process overpayments? I had a pension scheme which was recently wound-up and got the money back, but I paid too much tax on it. I'm owed £654. I wrote to the department in Portsmouth 3 weeks ago now, and called them about it, and wasn't given much info. Don't really know what to do next.

OP, I feel your pain.

I'm a full time student. I had a job during a year break from Uni and I was on the 10p tax band. The 20p tax band came in, my tax code wasn't changed straight away.
Now, in 2010, where my student loan doesn't cover the cost for food, the tax man is asking for £250 off me from underpaid tax.

****es me right off, with all the benifit cheats out there why should I have to pay tax from years ago because of their error!

£433 coming to me soon thanks to old emergency tax.

God knows lol, give them a ring.

Probably a stupid question but i'll ask anyway. :o

For those of you that got a rebate, did you pay income tax on it? My wife overpayed by £515, but had to pay income tax @20% on this amount so ended up getting a rebate of £431.

/tax noob.

My mate got £500.00 back last week.

I reckon they owe me over two grand, but will have to wait till the end of the tax year to be sure.

I was temping years ago on about £200.00 a week. One week I got £946.00 in my pay. I questioned it, then found out it was rebate.

Spent it over the course of the weekend on happiness imbibing substances. :(

Taxed tax? Dear christ.

That was my reaction as well, it doesn't seem correct to me. She received the letter last week (inc the income tax on the tax calc) and the check arrived yesterday for the rebate minus 20%.

It's not been banked yet so i think i'll look into it a bit more.

I started working over 2 years ago during summer holidays and this summer someone at work told me I wasn't supposed to be paying any tax. Wen't to the HMRC website to comfirm and then called them about the matter and they gave a full refund of all the tax I've ever paid. Not bad :D

£1200 tax rebate for me 2008/2009, not been working since due to compressed spinal cord injury.

Ouch. Guess it's like an early christmas present I suppose...
