Just been watching 'Life on Air' the documentary on David Attenborough's career in media and I have to say the man is a genius. He has to be one of the single most influential people in British Televisual history. He was the first to do so many things including transmitting in colour when he was the controller of BBC 2!!!!

What a great, he's well into his 70's and showing no sign of slowing down

Thanks for everything so far Dave.

Obviously not a testiment to how great his career has been, but his vioce is very relaxing and i love watching any documentary he is narrating.

Yeah most young people will probably think he just narrates but it would take me twenty lifetimes to do and see as much as he has.

He has just turned 80 years old on May 8th......UKTV Documentary on Sky, NTL, Telewest etc, just done a week of all the programs he done and peoples favorite bits of his shows.....

I'm only ever interested in Nature and Animals when this man is talking about them.....His love for what he does comes accross in such happiness and emotion.....The guy is a legend and no one will ever fill the gap he'll leave when he decides to give it all up :)

He must have one of the most impersonated voices of all time :D
Just about every one i know has tried doing his voice

What amazes me though is his time as BBC 2 controller and all the daring chances he took like transmitting Wimbledon in colour when everyone said it would be an abject failure. Also so much of what we take for granted with BBC 2 (Cutting edge comedy etc.) was down to his determination for the BBC to be truly representative and to give value for money for the licence fee.

The reason that the US went wild about 'March of the Penguins' is because they don't get quality documentaries like ours. We don't need films like this as we have Mr. Attenborough on the BBC. I don't know about knighthoods etc. but I think he should be made a saint.

I watched the Planet Earth series that he narrated, and every now and then I thought "Man, you must be gutted that you're just narrating this, rather than actually being there."

The man is a legend.
