Dawn of War II Beta Thread

I have just added a few people to my windows live thing, hopefully we can get a friendly game going sometime or something. Its a shame that there is no skirmish vs AI, as idealy i would like to learn the game VS AI before playing real players.

Host a game and close all the other slots bar ones you assign to CPU players.

Thankyou. I just tried that and the game seems fairly simpler. My main problem is how restrictive it is with so few units. I was playing and before i knew it i hit the population cap with 2 marine squads, a heavy bolter squad, a terminator squad and a plasma marine squad. I only built the plasma marine squad because i couldnt build any vehicles with such low cap.

Perhaps next time if i build less structures i will have more free cap, but even so i only built 2 or 3 buildings.

Also, the enemy bases have way to many hitpoints, due to only having so few squads i ended up with only 1 squad with a missile launcher, and the rest anti infantry. so taking down a base takes forever.

Not played it yet, but may I remind you the 40k was more about skirmish battles than large scale wars.

EPIC was about large scale wars and if developed would be more of a SupCom game.

40k (appart from at games days) was about skirmish battles with armies about the same size as CoH.

From the looks of things they have taken a lot of the features and made something very akin to the original, however looking at the unit limitations they should maybe have added larger point scales (Slightly more units).

So, this is more like the best RTS ever made (Ground Control) which actually made you develop a strategy for a battle rather than tank rush every map like every single other RTS on the market.
Great, i'll be buying it then.

In theory...

This guy reckons it's too simplistic for that though

I reckon he's just annoyed that it isn't like dawn of war.

Anyways we'll get to see come the 28th! (public beta)

i think you should try world in conflict instead if you enjoy that type of rts. dow2 can be a borefest sometimes.

for those not in the beta dont worry you are not missing a lot. its not the game we expected. it seriously lacks content and i would say its a downgrade compared to the original dow.

Some of you people are looking at this all wrong, rts's have evolved a lot since the original dow ..... this is a completly different game more akin to their previous game company of heroes

Yeah, but many people loved the base-building and larger squads and were hoping for a better version of the same formula.

Changing the formula to a dumbed down version of the original is of course going to make people turn away.

After reading what people have said I am totally disapointed with the direction they have taken and won't be buying it.

I just wish they would produce two versions, the dumbed down version (which suits some people) and a complex, proper RTS game version with base building, greater freedom, tactical options and micro-management.

I think I am going to see if I can get Dune 2 to work on my machine and play with that again.
