I heard someone complaining on the radio about a road accident in which two horses died and that 10 days later they were still lying by the road. They mentioned the area and I knew it, so the photojournalist in me said 'you've got to go there'.

The result:

Disgusting, but very good...

I like the composition and processing.. The car really makes the image, making it less about that specific accident and more about how cars have killed horses. (as a means of transport)

Get it submitted to your local news site/paper...

:(

Not very nice to look at.

And it's bloody disgusting that they're still lying there 10 days later. Really, what do we pay the council to do?

Clean up horses in Gibraltar?

Edit; Nice shot. Would have been tempted to use an even longer exposure and get some decent lighttrails from the cars going. Might be worth going back at nighttime with some flashes and see what you can get.

lol at MK, you and your flashes, you're now obsessed. Who let you look at Strobist anyway!

Also who let you buy two SB600's (I'm only jealous).

Alex the photo is quite morbid but I like it, there's no pretence to it, no 'art for art's sake' about it. It's just a statement. It's like really good war photography, the image might be shocking but it's showing a reality we might not be comfortable with but can't pretend doesn't exist.

There you go I've just added some pretentiousness for you. ;)

I'd name that picture 'Tarmac & Glue'.

Really good picture, I'd also like to see a night version, preferably when the road is a little busier too.

Do you want flashes with that sir? :p Well ive got a fashion shoot coming up soon, so I needed some lighting for that. Then I ended up reading strobists and I keep having ideas for lighting everything up. Don't worry this sillyness will pass eventually.

Good luck with the fashion shoot.

It's not silliness really, anything that gives you more control and creativity over your shots has to be a plus and as you've got quite an eye for a shot I'm sure only good things will come of it. :)

Really great picture, very saddening as I'm very fond of horses...

There was a famous picture someone took of an eagle which has been killed at the side of the road, similar to this picture, but it sold for a fortune..

Debate whose responsibility it is to remove said horses, for several weeks, until the problem goes away on its own.

I know the council get calls requesting dead cats and whatnot to be removed from roads. I'm sure if horses were involved in an accident it must have been quite serious. Someone should be informed to remove them..

hah, pwned!

as Panzer said, it's more of a statement than anything else and the impact is very good. I'd have tried to get some light trails as well - maybe go there at dusk so you don't need to have 2 SB600s, light stands and umbrellas like it's some sort of photo shoot :p

"Come on, more hoof, give me more hoof! I want to see angst, neigh like you mean it!"

:D vogue, vogue. omg, you are SO wearing that lipstick!

MK, I now have an image of you applying makeup to dead horses that will never leave me.

Having a good laugh with your comments here :)

This was not actually in Gibraltar, but across the border, in Spain. (In the outskirts of the town right next to Gibraltar).

Anyway, glad most of you liked it, and apologies to those who find it too disgusting. Its the nature of photojournalism really. Reality is sometimes more than one wants to see. Believe me, if the photo is bad, at least it doesnt capture smell!

luckily for you, that just sealed the deal of me unfortunately having to duck out of any meet that we may both be on! too scared!
