This reminded me of that documentary program on Channel 4 about 'The end of the world cult' where they said the world was going to end on a certain night, and when it came to it, then said they were slightly wrong with the calculations and re-announced a date LOL.....Sad....if the world is gonna end its gonna end. why worry or panic when you cant prevent it???

Apparently so, the second link in the OP showed how you could see it. Not sure if it was visible to the naked eye or if you'd need a telescope however.
