Death of Xfire

Look I will make it simple for you & try to be polite as possible.
I'm not here to discus what you find useful, I'm telling you what & why i use them, what you think of those features in regards to me is irrelevant, those features exist & i like using them in the way i see fit & i find you telling me how to go about my computing business extremely Arrogant.

Let me make it simple for you. I'm telling you why i see some of those points as completely inconsequential, at no point did i say 'u iz wrong'. I suggest you vacate the immediate vicinity of... well the internet if you get this wound up over absolutely nothing. We wouldn't want your blood pressure to spike now would we?

I discovered Raptr just the other day after getting annoyed with the lack of day 1 support for two such large releases, while Raptr supports them, as well as several more. It does most of the things Xfire does, such as multi-protocol messaging, including MSN, AIM, Steam and others. Its also created by one of Xfire's co-founders. You can also point it to your steam and GfWL profiles and it keeps track of your achievements if you like that sort of thing. And a large plus is that you can point it at your xfire profile and it grabs all of the time spent playing games on Xfire and imports it into Raptr, so you don't lose all that 'history'.
The only thing it lacks compared to Xfire is the screenshot and video options.

My profile, for example.

I will keep an eye on this one.

Isn't broadcasting almost eavesdropping ><

Its unlikely enough people even know of its existence otherwise steam may of added it in some shape or form. After all they do have a suggestions section on their forum and if it got enough internet people might use it.

An on screen clock is pretty meaningless. You can bring up and close the steam overlay in a fraction of a second to view the time or alternatively just wear a watch or have a clock nearby... but losing game control? Seriously how does it matter? You can't type in a chat window and still play at the same time anyway. Ok there are some instances where it would have an effect but if you have an urgent conversation going where you can't spare a few moments in game to reply then perhaps your attention is in the wrong place.

And that wasn't directed at you... just a general comment regarding why someone might ultimately prefer not to use steam.

Now the bit in bold is directed at me & is basically telling me how to go about my gaming but your arrogance stops you from seeing that & i didn't ask you for your advice.

Course it was directed at you, who else would it be directed it? ZOMG but Xfire can display the time... so does steam? ZOMG steam loses game control in the overlay... how exactly do you type in chat while still having game control on Xfire? If you don't want your posts commented on then don't post in the first place, or better yet don't reply full of rage. But sure you continue your tantrum.

In steam it doesnt allow u to join ur mates game session on MOST games while in xfire it works on most games by simply clicking the join button below your friends name

Raptr still has a far way to go but currently its pretty impressive as is, if they get more game supported officially then ill switch over to them.

Ive used xfire for years but recently ive only really used it as force of habbit or when wanting to chat on MSN while gaming.

I like doing stuff in game & that's it & how I go about it is my business, everyone does things there way & xfire offers me to do things my way & that's it.

It don't need to be told by you how to go about things in steam when i have another app that does what i need the way i like it no matter how you feel about those features.

I don't get upset on the net & its more arrogant assumption on your part.

Its nothing to with don't want someone to comment on what i said & is everything to do with what is said & that's a simple understanding of communication & is not an excuse to say what ever you like just because a comment was made, there are rules to abide by.

You stated things that Xfire could do in such a way you implied that Steam can't then you got all defensive, raging about how i'm telling you what to do when i just said you can do it in steam. You didn't even bother to explain how exactly Xfire does chat better when as far as i can tell Steam does it in pretty much the same way. Or for that matter how you can type without losing control of the game...

Your obsession with me being 'arrogant' because you threw a hissy fit is ridiculous.

The things i stated are the simple truth & steam does not have those features or the features it does have are implemented in a way that is not my preferred way period & its nothing to about getting all defensive because its exactly what you did in your reply to me by telling me that i don't need those features & saying the word arrogant is hardly a hissy fit when its a fitting word for you when you think i should be liking & doing things your preferred way.

Now then lets discuss those features without you telling me what i need & what i don't need & what i should like & not like.

Video recording upto 100fps.
broadcasting.
p2p file transfer.

Non game control blocking overlay which allows me todo the following=
Clock & FPS counter.
I keep my friends & community list open while in game.
I get xfire calls while in game & accept with a mouse click.
I get chat & community msgs while in game & can reply when i see fit without having to close the overlay because i have lost control of the game.

XFire does seem interesting with all those features. I had always ignored it because I didn't want yet another program running while I was playing a game, but some of those are definitely worth having.

Yes broadcasting support.
i can play a game & my friends & anyone on xfire can watch as i play in realtime & i can see how many people are watching me play.

You mean it says "X is playing X" or actually watch a video of you playing?

AS the later would rape any internet connection and your cpu surely?

that's still a massive strain on an internet connection while playing a game.

It's really not, as long as you have a capable upload, you can stream willy nilly without any game performance loss.

Of course, higher quality you stream in (talking like 720p+), the bigger performance hit you may, or may not recieve.

Yes its watching a stream of what im playing & there are a few settings with quality settings & size ect...
Its not that bad & its the res that's the real killer so don't play in 2560x1600 when broadcasting as that's massive bandwidth.

you don't stream directly to people it goes through Livestream & they relay the stream to all who is watching.

You can watch through a browser or the Xfire client.

If you have webcam you can overlay that as well http://www.xfire.com/video/1a45bd/ http://www.xfire.com/video/1d91e8/

Personally i would like steam to have all those features & they have the infrastructure & resources to pull it off to meet everyone's needs.
