Lol, should have read the reviews, you don't buy a pug and expect trouble free motoring.

I've had no problems with my 306 in 3 years that weren't my own fault, though the shoddy build quality is pretty obvious. But at least my car was built in Coventry, i think the 307's are built in Buenos Aires!

From what i've heard, the 307 and 807 are atrociously bad. Other Peugeots seem to be ok, but still not the greatest.

Twas directed more towards the 307 really, its a shoddy bit of work thrown together rather than assembled.

I'm also a pug hater as my 306 was nothing but trouble in the 9 months I owned it. I had to replace the gearbox and clutch after 4 months of owning it, the transmission never felt right even with a new box. had a few electrical gremlins and a nasty leak that would fill the drivers footwell with water when it rained  Glad to see the back of that car and I now own a reliable Mondeo. Build quality is on another level.

I plead ignorance & idiocy your honour :p

From what I can gather, by speaking to other owners and a few people at my local pug dealer, anything post 2001 is somewhat of a car shaped time bomb.

The unreliability I could deal with, its just such an awful car to boot :o

This is a gutter for anyone who has got a late motor that goes wrong constantly. I feel for you dude i really do. I think it was last year i went and bought an old 405 diesel of this dude down south. Anyways when i got there he was late and apologised and explained that his Brand new Pug had just broke down with 45 miles on the clock.
I've had loads of old Diesel Pugs and there engines are excellent but all of them have had the Mad French Ghost syndrome.
MFGS= Electrical anomolys that come and go as they please. trim working loose then tight  WTF. Bits falling off things not working for no particular reason.
I fix my own cars and always have and i have had old Pugs that have something wrong with them when i bring them home. Next morning i get my kit out and go out and fix it and it's not broken.
Of course as soon as i drive it something else appears so i try to fix that. I learnt just to ignore these issues and use the engines as workhorses.
Pugs are dead in this country now, there rep sucks the factory is closing i would get rid as soon as poss if i owned one. In a years time they will be cheap as chips and not a bad buy if you get the right one but i would stay well clear of pugs.

are these cars at all engineered or are they thrown together in a random fashion?

"This could mean that you lose all power which means you can't steer or brake properly"

What utter, sensationalist pap. Of course you can steer and brake, just takes a bit more muscle power.

A bit?

Steering or braking in such a situation will be considerably harder than it would be in a car that was designed not to have any power assistance in the first place, it's not merely a case of the controls reverting to how they'd have been on a car 20 years ago.

The additional effort required could well be beyond some people, particularly women, who I'd imagine constitute a significant proportion of 206 owners.

So what do you suggest, avoid all cars that have power steering and brakes? It's not only Peugeots that break down, and most cars will be affected in the same way. I've had to steer and brake with no engine running, and yes it's fairly heavy but perfectly managable, especialy at higher speeds when the steering is light anyway.

Agreed up to a point; the older ones tend to be the best. XUD engines have more sets of lives then a cat and if you can ignore the other little niggles they are lovely.

For real pug authenticity the numbers on the counter at the "dontbuypeugeot" site should'nt line up so neatly :p ;)

a few french cars are ok, but just be safe and make sure your car is either german or jap.

it is sad to think that in this day and age a company can still be allowed to release such dross.

i bet there is a fanclub website outthere lol

to be fair it says 'properly' at the end - which is true. :)

Guy at work here wants to buy a new peugot 206ccc (heaven knows why, think he is having a bad midlife crisis) told him to steer clear of peugot, he said all of his previous ones have been great..
