Hello all,

Having recently decided wanting to do a little upgrade to my PC, I have been trying to find a decent socket 478 motherboard with AGP 8x and SATA, as my graphics card is an 8x, but my current motherboard is only 4x.

Everywhere I look, most socket 478's are either discontinued (yes i know it's old school now) or out of stock. I keep on seeing some ASRock motherboards, but I have no idea if they are any good? I heard that certain chipsets are rubbish with certain boards.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Andy

The Asrock boards are generally fine and one of the few still available, but, if your planning to do this to make full use of your graphics card then I wouldn't bother, the improvement will most likely be very small, if anything.

Keep in mind there are 939 boards like the Asrock dualsata thingy at £40 with both PCI-E and AGP which you could then pair with a 64 3700+ for not a lot of moolah and keep your AGP card until you feel a need to upgrade further.

There are also (rare but they do exist) PCI-E boards for 478 which paired with something like a 7600 GT could potentially be a very nice boost too :)
