Hi.

Well I'm planning on selling my Z5500's, want something better all around if thats possible.

For £150-£200 is it possible to buy second hand seperates that is of a higher quality all around, high's, mids, bass and possible also has powerfull bass?

For £150 whats the best 2.1 system? I've been told the Aego M's are excellent, how do they compare to the Z2300? I like quite a lot of bass in some songs, I hope this aint a crime, so would the Z2300 have more bass output in terms of spl than the Aego M's.

Definitely go for the separates. I managed to get a pair of B&W 601 S3 for £120incl (although this is way under what they sell for.) and you can get a good amp with the rest. I did get a Marantz PM7000 but the seller pulled out. :/ I have increased my budget and going to get a NAD amp as soon as I can find a good one. :p

Were did you get the seperates from if you dont mind me asking?

Surely these can get down to 30-40Hz aswell?

Monitor Audio Bronze B2 (is also shortened to BR2). I was was watching a pair of these that sold for the same price. A lot of it is keeping patience.

The 602's are similar but have a bigger cabinet so produce better bass. Although has been said sound boomy in confined spaces (why I didn't go with them).

A pair of Wharfedale 9.1 would also be a good bet.

Edit, to get an amp as well for £150 is pushing it a lot.

On that some guy 21 miles from me is selling some WHARFEDALE FLOORSTANDING SPEAKERS for 85 quid, apparently they used to be 300 quid.

Damn there is some good stuff on there.

how come u want something better than the Z5500? i got the Z5400 and think they're amazing!

I'm kinda wanting better sound quality, I played the same song on my Z10's today as I did on my Z5500's, and even the Z10's were in a league of there own compared to the Z5500 , dunno if it was sound drivers.

I have the z680s, basically the same as the z5500s for quality and power, Dont get me wrong they sound amazing, but cos the speakers are so small, they miss a lot of mid range sounds out and some highs sound too high, if that makes any sense??

Is it possible to get some decent speakers to use with the Z5500 that will have the mid range?

Mmm, not really. I replaced the front satellites on my Z-5500s and the improvement wasn't all that great. Because the crossover frequency is suited for the small satellites, almost no midrange, let alone mid-base, is sent to the speakers. However, the highs sound a lot better as a result of the tweeters on bookshelves. They still lack a hell of a lot of the midrange required to make music sound acceptable.

Will my Z10's lack all the mid range too? I know everything is sooo much more crisp and that tweeter makes stuff sound like you people singing right near you ears, and you cant even tell the sound is coming from the speakers, infact most of the time with my Z10's you would think the music is coming from the center of me LCD Screen, weird but awsome.

Although I've never heard the Z10s before, I assume they're much more balanced so they'd produce much better midrange in comparison to a lot of the 2.1 and 5.1 setups aimed at PC users. It's a pity you can't change the crossover frequency with the Z-5500s because, paired with some nice bookshelves, I'd imagine it could sounds quite nice for music.

Since I'm using some 15-year-old, 10 watt Sony bookshelves with my Z-5500s at the moment, I'm planning on dropping about £30-40 or so on some nicer-looking bookshelf speakers, which I hope will sound a bit better too. When I do, I'll post my results and see how much of an improvement they are over the normal satellite speakers. Although, I really doubt they'll be any better than the bookshelves I'm using now, which are only a slight improvement over the satellites anyway.

Yea post results would be nice :D

I'm wondering, maybe I could save up, buy a propor amp and connect 10" driver, and the sattelites to it and use it like that so I can properly adjust it?

No..that sub needs to be active, if you're going to use the Logitech it's got EQ and bass managament that is designed for the Log sats, and you don't want those further down the line, if you have av amp.

Just go down seperates.... As for £30-£40 budget for speakers, forget it. Ditch the Logitechs and start again.

I mean totally ditch the logitech amp, surely there is some amps capable of delivering a sub enough power?

The Z5500's are good sounding enoough for me for movies in DTS anyway, just music, my Z10's embarrass it, I'll probs get an amp for crimbo or something, then buy me some bookshelves, dont want to get rid of the Z5500 really, would be bad would it not? especially for movies.

No, not at your budget, you'd need six channels of amplification (av amp, which only have 5) or if you go down seperates use a spare amp or monobloc. Or a six channel poweramp mated with av pre-amp (Rotel made a 6 ch pwr amp a while ago) 60Wx6

If I already had a PC 5.1 system (depending on what I'd do) I'd get a stereo integrated amplifier + quality stereo speakers. Use them for stereo, and just the Logitech C/RR/RL/Sub when watching 5.1. Then eventually ditch the Log with AV amp + C/rears and sub.
