Decent speakers for £150?

I want to get a 2.1 seperates eventually, amp, bookshelves, BK Monolith, I'm dead set on getting that sub eventually.

Monitor Audio Bronze B2 (is also shortened to BR2). I was was watching a pair of these that sold for the same price. A lot of it is keeping patience.

Not quite right there. The B2's are the previous model from monitor audio and the BR2's came out last year as a product refresh. They look a bit more snazzy but probably won't be a huge improvement.

how come u want something better than the Z5500? i got the Z5400 and think they're amazing!

Because the logitech speakers do games well, movies quite well, and are crap for music and only really useful for houseparties. They go loud and not much else. Instead of the z5500's you could have a top notch 2nd hand arcam amp and some nice bookshelf speakers like the MA B2, B&W 601. A separates system might not do 5.1 and have a 1000w sub, but they will make you realise how tinny and boomy pc speakers really are. Plus you'll actually be able to hear midrange in the music.

I mean totally ditch the logitech amp, surely there is some amps capable of delivering a sub enough power?

The Z5500's are good sounding enoough for me for movies in DTS anyway, just music, my Z10's embarrass it, I'll probs get an amp for crimbo or something, then buy me some bookshelves, dont want to get rid of the Z5500 really, would be bad would it not? especially for movies.

Perfect plan :D

I sold my z5500's to my parents and now we use it with the HD tv and they are plugged into either the sky+ box or the PS3. They really make PS3 games and especially blu rays come alive :)

A month later and i could have sold you my arcam + modified B2 setup as im moving up the separates ladder.

How much would the amp and B2 setup cost?

Wonder if logitech or creative will ever make a 5.1 sound system with decent sized speakers? I guess if they do, it will be much more exspensive then £200. Thats why they make the speakers so small, to cut costs.

You're looking at £400 (new) for a introductory budget Hi-Fi setup, £200 amp, £200 speakers.

I'm looking at second hand.

Maybe one day, they dont listin to what people recommend tho.

Well a delta 290 amp like mine goes for about £100-£150 on the bay,and my speakers were £175 but doubt they'd go for more than £90ish now. But mine are a little better as ive replaced the capacitors in the crossovers with higher speced ones. Sound pretty damn sweet still, and although the arcams casing is a little tatty and has a few dings at the back it doesn't suffer from the common problem of a crackly volume selector switch.

Highly recommend it as the MA speakers can be a little bright, but the warm sound of the arcam really tames them well :D

Sorry, my bad. Assumed BR was short for Bronze

Shows how much of a geek i am :p

Ah damn I would have took em off you but dunno if I'll have the fund in time :(, probs could only hope to get me parents to pay for em as crimbo present but you wont have em by then.

Im not in any huge rush as my future upgrades will cost a substantial amount more than the speakers and amp combined. My email is in my trust if you wana chat further about my stuff or anything hi-fi :)
