Defrosting pork under a trickle of hot water

Hot water isn't going to cook it I guess, whereas a microwave might partially cook it. I guess that might be the origin of that.

Safer? Nonsense.

The trick to defrosting is keeping the meat[food] at a "safe" temperature throughout whilst defrosting. Defrosting using hot water is not remotely safe if you are worried about bacteria - truth be told you'd probably be ok.

There are only three methods you should use to defrost: Refrigerator, Cold Water and Microwave. Reason being these will keep the meat[food] at a "safe" temperature (4oC - 48oC). Temperatures above this - eg with hot water - allow bacteria to multiply.

Thanks guys. I did use a trickle of hot water and kept feeling the meat throughout checking it wasn't heating up too much.

Will report back with any illnesses I may acquire :p

...kept feeling the meat...

I bet that felt great~
:p

I usually just have my meat sealed, then drowned in a basin of luke warm water for an hour before changing it again. Meat defrost in 2 hours depending on weight. I generally prefer putting in a basin, in the sink (clean) before I go to bed. Next morning I either fridge it for use later that evening / marinade or bung it in the slow cooker before heading out to uni.

Yeah same here although not good if its mince and the bag leaks, you get a mince/water mess which is only really fit for the bin

My old microwave broke and just bought a new one but as I don't know about microwaves, I apparently got one which doesn't have defrost. Hence the reason for the thread, incase anyone wondered :p

I'm still alive btw. :D

I never bother with using the fridge or the tap to defrost.
Either leave it on the side until it's defrosted (and hope the cat doesn't notice it). Or if i'm in a rush use the microwave (only occasionally use this, it slightly cooks the meat i find so i don't use it often)

Leave anything in the fridge it takes way to long to defrost.
Never had food poisoning in my life.
