Deionized or distilled?

Bought 5L of de ionized from a local car shop after trying every chemist in the area for distilled and none of them sold it or were willing to order in for me "because no one buys it".

Deionized words just as well though!

I was going to put dehumidifier water in my system in my recent rebuild. I collected about 5 litres worth from my parents unit, but chickened out when I saw lumps floating about in it and went with deionized as I did the last time. It would probably have been alright if I'd put it through a coffee filter but I couldn't be arsed with it when it came to it.

If you are ever thinking of this route - the reservoir needs to be cleaned BEFORE you collect the condensate.
Loads of life growing it there otherwise.

Condensing tumble dryer are better - as the heat kills most of it off.
But both need filtering to remove dust.

I bought my deionized water from a garage, its used for topping up Lead-Acid car batteries. I've used it for years and its perfectly fine. In fact my water loop hasn't been a flush in almost 2 years and the water still looks perfectly fine for another 2+ years if I needed it to.
I think there's the risk of getting too technical with the coolant, deionized water and a few drops of water wetter or some other anti bacterial and you're good to go.
