mate, get out. i know im young and that but i cant imagine living a life which you dont enjoy. your just wasting it away.. leave your job, go to uni, meet new people. get sum .... then your sorted!

Sounds like me!

I've been at my current job for 18 months on a 13k salary, work with two other people (one is the supervisor and the other is the manager), they are both in their 40's and I'm 20 so don't have anything in common with them, I spend most of my time surfing the net but when there is work I'm always doing most of it even though I get paid the least.

I've come to the stage where money doesn't even matter to me, I've started to hate the the people and hate the routine work. I feel I can do so much better (despite not having any qualifications) and that I deserve a much better job and salary.

So... I handed my resignation letter in a few weeks ago and will be jobless from next week. Some may say it's silly to quit without finding a new job first, but its become so unbearable that I would much rather quit and spend more time and effort on looking for a new job than face those lazy cows. I think the reason I stayed at this job for 18 months is because I always thought of it as 'If I can't find another job then oh well, I've still got this job to fall back on'. When I am jobless, I will have all the time I need to look for a another job and attend interviews etc.

Anyway, do whatever makes you happy! I haven't been this happy for a long time, and even if I end up jobless for 6 months, i'll still have no regrets.

And come back to the same thing as well. I Just dont know what the hell todo really, I dont even want to consider wasting my time at uni and coming out and being in the same situation again.

How many of you are actually slightly happy with your jobs?

First step is to find out what the hell YOU CAN DO that you may like.

All these people telling you to leave, that might not be the best idea as you have NO IDEA what you are wanting to move to.

Make a list of your attributes, and a list of what u think you would be good at doing then try and match it up to a job.

And also go and see a careers advisor!

people tell you that £13k is a good wage

it is hardly above minimum wage and only half of the national average wage

back to your to your main question, if you have no motivation then get out, it will only get worse

Indeed, the pay is ok but not above the national average wage. Also like Rotty said if you don't find working interesting and feel like you want to be there, then walk out.

I would think it wise to get yourself another job before walking out.

Remember he is in South Wales - salaries are comparatively lower and jobs are indeed thin on the ground. I speak from experience!

Quoted for truth. Assuming that you're not a monkey, you could be earning much more than this. Hell, a temp job paying £6.25 an hour will get you more than £13,000 a year. If you've been there three years and not seen even the merest sniff of career progression then you need to be getting out. Whether you leave now or wait until you've got something else is up to you, but if you don't want to be stuck there for the rest of your life you've got to do something.

Not on 35 hours a week it won't, and especially after tax. People seem to be ignoring that the guy is only 21, and for his age, £13k a year is a good wage.

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/

Rather nice website, the national average wage works out to be approx £447 a week for men and £367 a week for women.

Also for the OP: Since you work for the DVLA have you looked for jobs elsewhere (another part of England?) that are normally advertised on your HR internal website page?

You'd have to be working in excess of 40 hours to get a 13k salary on £6.25 an hour.

£6.25 x 40 = £250

£250 x 52 = £13,000 ;)

(I actually used a calculator... such sums are way beyond my mental arithmetic capabilities :p)

I could swear this thead seems to be written by someone about me. When I left school I went onto a BTEC course because at the time it was made out by the college staff to be the kind of thing I was interested in at the time. As it turned out, it wasn't. I stayed on for the 1st year of the course just mainly for the experience if anything. After that I just got the first job I could find to get me some kind of income. Today I'm still there. It's a distribution centre for a clothing company. Pay rates vary depending on how long you've been at the company. I am now on the highest pay rate which works out as £13.5k p/a. I want to get out buy can't find a single thing that appeals to me. The only jobs ever advertised on web sites and local papers are in either catering or care home assistants.
