I think display port is digital only and scart is analogue. So it's not possible to do this with just a cable.

I hate to suggest this, but ask for a sample.
It seems strange that such a cable would even exist to be honest. It must have a converter inside one of the plugs.

What you have is a TV with no scart on it? My samsung does not have a scart port directly on the TV, but what it does have is an adapter which connects a small port on the TV to a scart socket. This is because there is no room on the rear of the TV (its not deep enough) or they are saving room.
My bet is that it is not a DP port but an OEM port for a scart socket.
What make is the TV? And model number.
