Hi,

Just bought a Panasonic Fx-3 camera from 'well known online retailer' that was delivered today by Parcelforce. Everything is inside, but the box was not sealed in anyway. There was no plastic shrink wrap over the box, or a big sticker over the join to indicate that it has not been opened or tampered with.

Does this sound fishy to anyone or am I just being paranoid? Surely something this small should have some kind of seal? I phoned 'well known online retailer' customer services and the guy was not sure, so is looking into it, and said he would call back later this afternoon.

Thanks for any advice on this.

It 'looks fine'. I don't know whether it works or not because I'd need to charge the battery, and don't really want to do that because I'm thinking about having it sent back.

Phoned Panasonic and the person said they send the FX-3 cameras out sealed, wrapped in plastic, and that he wouldn't risk it.

Is it fairly common to get cameras not sealed then? If they were sealed originally just wandering why it could turn up without the seal.

Had stuff like that delivered before, usually there is a bit of sticky tape somewhere on the lid, however some boxes have those built in cardboard catches that keep it all closed and are not always taped.

To be honest If all the items inside looked fine then I wouldn't have even given it a though and would probably be taking some pictures by now lol.

So the general consensus is that I'm being paranoid? No-one gets concerned that they've just bought a B-grade product even though they've paid the full retail price?

I got my 30D on te high street and the seal was broken, but inside looks absolutely mint to perfection, obviously someone was going to buy it and look a look, every cable, manual, battery was sealed anyway so i wasn't worried.

I can understand if it was bought on the high street and that was the case, but this was bought online. Plus the charger, battery, manual, and camera, are all in their packaging, but none of them are sealed . They are all open.

So based on this, would this get the alarm bells ringing, without an adequate explanation from 'well known online retailer'?

You can ask for an exchange if you are really worried. But if its fully working with all the bits under warranty, what does it matter?

Just got a call from 'well known online retailer'. He said that they got a call from Panasonic saying that one of the FX-3 cameras in a batch they received had a fault, so they had to test them all to find it, before they sent them out. So problem solved. Thanks for the replies! :)

You were going to keep going until someone agreed with you, weren't you?

Why not? If he thinks it's been used and returned for whatever reason it would arouse suspicion. If he's just paid the full retail pride for what might essentially be a second hand prodcut, then he should kick up stink.

I'm not disputing that. But what is the point is asking a question when there's only one answer you want to hear?

I'd still send it back. I find it odd that the supplier knew that ONE camera in that batch was suss. I'd send it back asking for one from a batch that was in perfect order. Me being the sort of person that doesn't trust anyone, has the first thought that they've opened it for some other reason and have spun some bs reason at you so you don't return it.

If it fails now, you've accepted it with a broken seal ;)

I wouldnt worry about sending it back, you have a reasonable explination. If it were me I would wait and see if it goes wrong and cross that bridge as and when, I am sure it will be fine!

You're always going to have your own opinion on something, and side towards it. However, it's always good to check what other people think, and then re-evaluate where you're at. This is a good example. I would have sent the item back. However, with most of the comments here, the fact the seller offered an okay reason, and that I checked the camera last night and it worked fine, I'm keeping it. So you're wrong and there was a point to the original post.
