This is going to be my first upgrade from a crappy NEC 2170NX (lots of ghosting in fast games etc).

Everything I've read points to the Dell beating everything out there for performance/quality.

Originally I looked at the Viewsonic & Samsung 120hz monitors for "near" CRT speed gaming, however IQ looks pretty bad/backlighting issues etc.

Don't mind going for a 23" but everything suggests the Dell 22" is currently best in it's range?

I'm an old school gamer brought up on CRT screens and used to playing at 100hz min - i know refresh rates work differently on TFT's/CRT's however - should I be going for the Samsung/Viewsonic as it's mostly gaming i'm interested in.

I don't want a screen that I have to tilt back/forward to get a good image (ie viewing angle problems) sat about 3ft from the screen.

What makes me lean towards the 120hz screens however is the price, I'll be going for a Radeon 5770 and am aware of the driver issue setting 2d clocks too low and causing the screens to trip out (easily solved with the core speed increase).

Which is the least hassle/true 120hz screen? Samsung or Viewsonic? most reviews favor the VS?

The current 120hz screens are just awful in 2d, poor colours and the resultions is just unacceptable in 2010, I would wait for new 12-hz mointers or get the dell

Im kinda in the same situation, however ive been leaning towards getting a Nvidia GPU as i was unaware there was a working fix for 120hz monitors with ATI cards, could u explain how its done?

Oh and if i was getting a monitor, that ur using purely for gaming, id go for the Viewsonic or Samsung 120hz models, tho i myself am tending towards the Viewsonic.

interesting :)

is it the viewsonic that locks the brightness when in 120hz mode? (don't like my screen TOO bright you see!)

Ref the fix (Quote):

"OK I know why this issue occurs now. It is not a hardware fault. The cards 2D speed is too low to drive a 120Hz monitor. AMD are working on a fix to have a higher 2D speed should 120Hz be set. That will take a while though.

The issue shouldn't occur in games as obviously the card uses a higher clockspeed while gaming.

For now you could use a overclocking util such as amdgpuclock or whatever to set a higher 2d clock speed."

As far as I'm concerned, the Dell is the best 22in monitor.

It doesn't have the super speed of the 120Hz ones, but it has low input lag and response times and no ghosting at all - so makes for a great gaming screen.

Then on top of that it has a wonderful e-IPS panel 8-bit panel that is beautiful to behold.

I've been tempted by it, but I've read comments from people that switched from the Dell to either the Samsung/Viewsonic and were even more impressed by the speed of those screens...

arghhh! don't know which to go for, don't want to risk a 60hz tft as I just hate gaming on tft's with the lag (any! i've not been the same since I got rid of my LG Flatron 795 :() and ghosting, so I'm leaning towards the 120hz screens...

but according to Digital Versus, the Dell has LOWER response times than the Viewsonic or Samsung... but I guess it's not JUST about the response...
