First off hope everyone's having a good Christmas :).

I know the Dell 2209WA was a steal at the £200 price bracket, but it has since gone up in price to around £230-£250, would the monitor still be worth it at that price or would I be better off with the (TN Panel :()Samsung SM2443BW to get more screen real estate or is the e-IPS panel simply too good?

The monitor will have my current screen (Samsung T240) sat next to it with this as the main display. My primary use would be 2D Graphical work with a secondary use of gaming.

So, is the 2209WA still worth it at £230-£250?

Cheers.

Well, tricky really, I'd say at the price it is now, it's very much a case of 'depends on the user' ...I would say yes, it is just about worth the price, I have 2 of them here right now, although I had mine when they were very new and they cost more than £200 then, about £210 if iirc. However despite this, I'm not sure I would pay £250 for one now simply because you could buy the 23" IPS Viewsonic display with higher resolution for £250, which does make the Dell look rather expensive, it is a truly excellent monitor though and if it wasn't for the price of the Viewsonic, I'd still recommend it in a heartbeat, even at £250.

But for my money, if I was buying now, I'd go with the Viewsonic 23" IPS display instead.

If all you're interested in is screen real estate then the 26" Iiyama looks to be a better bet than the 24" Samsung, however having a Dell 2209WA myself (bought for less than £200) I would loath having to go back to using a TN panelled monitor for my main display. If I was looking at getting a 24" monitor now, I'd be considering spending the extra for either the H.P. or Dell IPS monitors. The Viewsonic 23" looks like it's worth a punt if you can live with the 16:9 aspect ratio.

The Viewsonic looks quite good actually, all reviews (Most of them are strangely similar lol) mention a lack of brightness, and my Samsung is on 100 brightness (Bright room plus I get a buzz if it goes lower) so it could look a little washed out.

I'll look at possibly stretching to the HP screen, bit of a price jump though, but it should be worth it.

The Dell might come down in price a bit in the new year hopefully, so I'll wait and see what that brings.

Thanks a lot for input guys, it's much appreciated :)

I have the Dell 2209WA monitor and would say it is definately worth £250 although I have to admit that i bought it at the reduced price! Lol. But after shipping to Orkney it was only £20 cheaper than you'd have to pay for it!

Cheers for the input Ollie.

I was pretty much sold on the 2209WA, but then I found a comparison at DigitalVersus and did the T240HD (Didn't have the T240, however they use the same panel according to TFT Central) vs the 2209WA, and the results didn't show the Dell as outstanding compared to the Samsung (Unless I've made a novice mistake)

Unfortunately I can't link to the comparison (It gives a lot of links to competitors) but here are the actual images from the test.

Colour: Factory settings (Left is T240HD right is 2209WA)

Both graphs are based on the Delta E of the colour.

Based on this it's making me think whether it is worth sacrificing screen space for the eIPS panel as I only have limited calibration tools/knowledge (aka MagicTune Calibration Wizard lol) and whether I would be better off with the SM2443BW (Same panel as T240HD but with better stand) due to the higher resolution.

The viewing angles of an IPS aren't needed for me and all graphical work is amateur so exact colour accuracy isn't a necessity, it's just nice to have.

Again I ask, thoughts from those more learned?

Cheers.

Edit: I'm put off the Viewsonics by the low brightness, so probably won't go for one of them

The dell uses an 8 bit panel, the T240 uses a 6 bit panel and uses dithering to produce all the colours. Therefore, the colours do look much better on the e-IPS dell, you also won't get colour shifting when you move your head.

In which case I'm going to wait until around February time, will have more cash then (Birthday etc) and hopefully the price will have gone down a tad on the Dell.

Thanks to everyone who has given advice, it's all greatly appreciated :).
