I've had this monitor a couple of days and for gaming and general PC use it is lovely.

My problems start when I hook up my LG DVD player via HDMI using a DVI- HDMI converter.

My DVD player will output 576i, 576p, and two upscaled resolutions 720p and 1080i. I know the Dell won't accept 1080i via the HDMI connector.

Basically no matter what I set the DVD player or monitor to the picture is awful, mainly due to all dark colours being really grainy. And yes I am that 576i/p is a long way from the monitors native res.

I know there is something funny going on because when I hook up the same DVD player via component the picture becomes quite acceptable at 576i.

Is this my DVD player ruining the image via upscaling when using hdmi or something else?

Thanks

I know this doesn't help but I actually did something similar on the weekend and had the same problem.

I plugged a Toshiba SD-360E with HDMI (via a HDMI - DVI cable) into a dell 2407 and got a terrible picture.

Other inputs from the Toshiba were fine and of course DVI-DVI from PC was perfect.

The 2407 will not do 1080i over the DVI port, (or 720i afaik) but it does do 1080/720p. its to do with the controller chipset in the monitor not coping with having to deinterlace the incomign signal.

The 2407 will do 1080i over component though - I know I have my camcorder running this way.
