As per title, im thinking in investing in the Dell 2407 in the future. Im wondering what peoples experiences are with 1080p or 1080i gaming with the xbox360........Does rev a04 versions make any differnence......

thanks for the input - i think ill go and buy it today, sell my 2007 wfp to the parents....... any chance someone would put up a couple of pictures of the 360 in 1080p mode with the dell 2407.....?

Mark47 - did the recent 360 vga update improve things with the dell?

I personally didn't notice the update on my 2407, but it really didn't need it - the panel itself is fantastic & the 360 makes is look super!

Seem to be suggesting there that it somehow needed improving. Never seen anyone complain about particular problems with the 360 on a 2407 A04. If you're thinking of the wavey lines/noise problems, that's not going to be fixed with a firmware update, it's a hardware interference problem, and it doesn't show up on most screens anyway. The last update just added the colour range expansion profile thingies (I forget exactly what they're called) which just let you tailor the brightness/black depth for your screen. The VGA update that improved PQ was ages ago.

Hi,

I just bought a 2407 rev a04 yesterday to use for PC work, Xbox360 and my PS3.

The PC picture really is outstanding

The PS3 picture (hdmi->DVI) is also excellent. 1080p looks great.

A little dissapointed with the Xbox360 picture though. If connected via component, the picture is pretty sub-standard. The colours bleed and are far too bright. Over VGA I get some faint lines that are noticeable if you sit close - only on the highest resolution though.

You only get 1080i over component by the way.

Does anyone else have problems over vga at the highest revolution?

I just ordered the dell 2407 with 4 year warranty and soundbar for 425 including delivery - very happy :)

I haven't hooked my Xbox360 up to the net for about 3 months but it does have the 1080p update and it really is perfect. I can't think of how it could be better.

I might try the component cable just to see if there is any change but tbh I can't see it being any better as it is only 1080i.

the Dell 2407 really is the best thing i own PC wise.

afaik, because i was reading up and thinking of getting the screen, the component is pretty sub standard on the dell. but most monitors have higher quality connectors for things that will actually get used, so DVI and VGA, component 99% of people with a pc screen won't use so why make everyone pay £5 more for the screen for a high quality connector, when most won't use it.

the vga update needs settings changed to make it appear better.

the problem is computer monitors and tv lcd's have their contrast settings working differently so contrast isn't supposed to be great on VGA, although i found it fine. after the update you could go into setup and change the contrast setting, although it was called something else i think. it made a slight difference but was good before and slightly better after.

the new revision should give you 1:1 mapping(not sure if its automatic or needs to be selected by menu) which means some way when you have a 1080p signal it will display 1920x1080 with small black bars top and bottom so that it doesn't stretch the image from 1080 up to 1200.

From what I've read the lines are caused by the screen upscaling 1920*1080 to 1920*1200. It's not an easy upscale for the monitor to cope with because the resolutions are so similar. There's two solutions, apparently you can turn the sharpness down which gets rid of the lines, or you can select 1:1 mode which I think is what most people do since it gives you a sharper picture, and is why the A04 update was a big deal for a lot of people. You will get 60 pixel black borders top and bottom though, but at least the aspect ratio is then correct. Letting the screen scale 1080p to fill the screen means everything is vertically stretched 10%.

1:1 looks great, when i fired up Gow i was like .
Some games have screen tearing tho, what do you have to do?:
Is it monitor off,360 on then monitor on? or other way?.Sharpness down to 50 reduces it too i think.

Switching the 1:1 on works great! Thanks for the tip

Now I'm 99% satisfied.....

...if only the component picture was better.

As luminous was saying, there's supposed to be a way of getting rid of the tearing at 1080p / 1:1 but I don't know what it is, might be worth a search on google.
