Need to resurect this thread (got some extra cash in and thinking about this seriously now)
well i use my pc all of the time.. work, music, web, games, camera stuff. its a general all round pc that im at most of the time.
im worried that it will be too big for gaming, sitting so close to it.
and what do you mean "before i find one that is acceptable" ? were you sending them back. and why ?
any one else done this move 24 > 30 and have any comments ?
thank you
Hi there mate
Just before i answer some of your question just want to say everything is relative, what is good for one person is not for another.
now i read many times that the screen is too big and too this and text is small, but when i bought it was surprised how big is was at first (absolutely amazed actually considering i upgraded from a 19"crt that i was using as a temp monitor). But after about a week i got used to it and now it just seems normal, actually too normal. i sit about 20-24" away from the screen and text size is great.
as for gaming i cant say for 100% but i play far cry fine one an overclocked 7900gs @ max resolution and and get about 45-55fps which is quite enjoyable but although not maxed on everything. Play bf2 @ 1900x1600( i think) and it too is just perfect. Having said that farcry at lower resolution looks terrible, anything out of native is BAD in my eyes, but bf2 and oblivion seem just fine to me, although in native they do look slightly better so its game specific in my mind to a certain degree.
so its all relative, i would say with one gtx or gtx ultra you should be fine if you can accept lower resolution and gfx textures.
what i meant by finding one before its acceptable is that, usually these things do not come perfect from the manufacturer( so far my experience is only with dell 30") some have pink whites and other make buzzing noise on full brightness and other have blueish or yellowish whites, back light inconsistencies and so on..... so again it boils down to what is acceptable to you and how much leeway you have. For me if i way £1000 for a monitor i expect it to be perfect. I cant talk about other companies but Dell are very flexible with the guarantees and sending out new one if you find a fault with it, specially if you phone within 30 days of getting your new one, they are obliged to send out a replacement that is NEW after that you get refurbished ones as replacement.
if you can afford 30" i would say go for it, they are not as inflexible as you think and actually i wish i could get 34 lcd of the same resolution.
lovely screens, if you need pics i can take a few for you or any more questions do ask.
