Guys

Dell have just emailed me -

Hello Mr.

This E-Mail is to ensure that you get maximum benefit from your Dell system and to make you aware that the warranty you purchased for your
STUDIO XPS 1645 computer costing £ 999 with Service Tag:3PBKXK1 expires shortly.

If the system becomes defective after this date the system will no longer be covered for hardware support and the solution will no more be for free.
Here are the service offerings for your computer.
1) Extension of 1 year Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £120 Including Vat.
2) Extension of 2 years Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £140 Including Vat.
3) Extension of 3 years Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £180 Including Vat.

Is it advisable to take this out ? Are these laptops prone to failure.Iknow they get quite hot but not sure if that makes them unreliable in the future.

Cheers

Sam

I left mine till the 3rd e-mail, gave them a call and the bloke asked what he had to do to get me to extend the warranty.

Said give me the 3 years for £90 and I'll confirm my credit card details. To be honest, I was merely being cheeky but he put me on hold, came back a few mins later and said he's got his manager to apply a discount and asked for my card details.

Sure enough, £90 was charged to my CC for 3 Years Next Business Day Onsite :)

Laptop: Dell Studio XPS 16. Cost £1600ish with all the options.

edit

I've had 1 service call out where one of the keys came off the keyboard (cleaning the laptop with a bit too much enthusiasm). Called them on Tuesday, had a technician show up Wednesday who replaced the entire keyboard with a new one.

I have a Studio 15 with a Core i7-720qm, I think I paid about £130 to extend the warranty to 3 years next business day onsite. It turned out to be a good decision; the motherboard failed and needed to be replaced, which would have taken Dell over a week to resolve using the collect and return warranty that comes by default. If you plan to keep the laptop for a few years, it seems like a pretty good deal - even better if you can haggle on the price like RomeoS did.

Hi Guys

Ive just tried this and got no where. I was told there is no movement in Dell XPS warranty prices. When i said i had friends who had paid £90 / £130 and he said this was not possible and i would need to provide the service tag to prove.

Worth a go i suppose, not paying £180 for 3 years

Wait till the 3rd email mate. Just had a look through my emails and on the first one I got quoted the same prices as you.

Second e-mail:

1) Extension of 1 year Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £110 Including Vat.
2) Extension of 2 years Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £120 Including Vat.
3) Extension of 3 years Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £160 Including Vat.

Third e-mail:

1) Extension of 1 year Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £90 Including Vat.
2) Extension of 2 years Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £120 Including Vat.
3) Extension of 3 years Next Business Day Onsite Service warranty £140 Including Vat.

As above, Saundie got the 3 year for £130 so they definitely offer discounts. Also keep the bloke on the phone for a while, I figured with his eagerness, they must be working on a commission structure. A discounted sale is better than no sale for a 30min call.
