Depressing adverts.

Slightly off topic - but does anyone else have a problem on certain channels (Sky), where the adverts are a million times louder than the show your watching. Slightly embarrassing when your watching Game of Thrones at a reasonable volume, and then the Durex advert kicks in blaring out so the whole neighbourhood can hear....

So the show on TV with a gazzilion noisey sex scenes, midgets shagging whores, brothers doing sisters doggy style, and numerous brothel scenes, is less embarassing than the turntables Durex advert? lol...

I just don't watch TV much at all so don't have this issue. ;)

I do object to those guilt trip adverts, though. I'm sure that the director is waving a sandwich around behind the camera to make the African kids cry more and look a bit more desperate.

WON'T YOU PLEASE SEND MONEY, YOU SICK, SICK, SELFISH ******!

I give enough to charity and won't be guilt tripped into giving more than I can afford, so meh.

As someone who is home during they day, I get the pleasure of watching all the adverts aimed at unemployed scroungers, all they seem to show is ppi claims, payday loans and accident lawyers. I just mute the tv now when the adverts start and make a cup of coffee or something.

With regards to the charity guilt trip adverts, what annoys me more is the fact that they seem to spend so much on advertising. Surely they could do more good by actually using the money spent on 100s of advertising slots to help the poor people, rather than bombarding people who don't care with guilt in the hope of getting a couple of people to sign up for £3 a month.

It's emptional blackmail on TV and Should be illegal.

That's what fat people say when they see McDonnalds adverts and eat more...

In reality we are all rational people who can say no or just mute the tv when adds are on. (too many banging on about PPI when iv never had a loan and the tv doesn't listen to me when I shout at it)

If Sky offered a "no ads" package for £3/month extra I'd sign up for that instead :D

I can't say I've ever bought something because of an advert on TV but I can say I definitely haven't bought something because of an ad on TV.

I most certainly would rather pay double for my insurance than ever use go compare.

I can't stand the ones that advertise Debt management too, so patronising. They are just getting people into more and more debt, it's a twisted business model made possible through the power of advertising.

Another thing i can't get my head around with sky is....
With the beeb you pay the licence fee = No advertising
ITV = free so long as you put up with ads.
Sky = More ads than ITV and more expensive than the Beeb.

I left Sky a couple of years ago, they keep phoning me offering six months free sky, that's because the more subscribers they have the more ad revenues they receive.

They are just a bunch of ambulance chasers imho.

There's the lie that makes sure these adverts continue to work and work very well.

We arent rational people, we dont behave rationally all the time. Even if you dont buy that specific thing, it can create a desire for something.

These companies know it works thats why the keep doing it. They have all the evidence and they are getting smarter at it.

Agreed.

I don't see why people seem to think they are clever by claiming that adverts have no effect on them.

Even if it doesn't influence you to directly buy something, chances are, next time you go shopping for something like garden fence stain, you'll probably pick the brand that you last saw advertised on TV, because it's in your conscience.

Regarding the OP... I think there are far worse problems and adverts to be moaning about than ones trying to raise money for charity. Maybe it's not worked on you, but it obviously does, otherwise they wouldn't keep running such adverts. If somebody donates money as a result of it, then how can that be a bad thing?

I genuinely don't. I'm a sucker for word of mouth, perhaps which might be an indirect link to advertising but I'll always do my own research to ensure I get the best for my money. Even if it's a sweet brand, I'll grab cheaper supermarket equivalents because well, they're generally just the same. Not because I've seen a Gorilla playing drums. I use my own experience, research and try things before I buy them.
