Desktop not storing settings after reboot.

Having a problem with my Windows Vista Ultimate not storing my desktop settings after I boot up. My wallpaper, theme and resolution etc are all as should be though.

However my icons are reverting back to default, going really big and aligning themselves to the left of the screen, when they are supposed to be really small and located in different areas of the desktop.

I am running SP1, any suggestions ?

strange problem

ive got a sorta similar problem with folders not staying in the view i set them at (eg changing to detail view from list view on restart/randomly)

could be a related problem? but sorry i have no idea on how to fix it
