Hoping someone can help,

PC power supply just want bang, or at least I think this is what has just gone pop, using my laptop at the moment.

I turned it on, and within a few seconds, it went pop, and a bad electrical burning smell followed. Not good. PC is now dead.

I've removed the old power supply, and it rattles, I just hope this is all that has been fried.. The smell was being omitted by the PSU.

It is a pretty old system, 4.5+ years old, and the old PSU is a Enermax Model EG465AX-VEG

460W ATX.

I need something that can be used to replace this, but I'm out of touch with PC hardware. It has changed a lot since I built the system, so need to get some basic re-education on what I need to replace this with. Not looking for same brand, I just want to recover the system, to try and make it limp on for a few more years. Its been a good old workhorse. I'm sure another £50 for a PSU won't hurt.

Any ideas, please share, thanks for any help.

Intel P4 2.4G
2 x 80GB IDE 7200 HDD
ATI 9700 Pro
DVD
DVD RW both IDE

2 x 512MB DDR memory. Was a very powerful PC when it was built all those years ago...

I take it I can still get a new PSU for it, all I see now is PCI-x, SLI etc...? New standards, makes me look old now.

thanks all.
