I really need some of you guys to motivate/influence even broaden my musical tastes for me a little. It seems like I've fallen into a music rut where for the last 3 years I haven’t dared stray from overplayed indie/alternative crap; Arctic Monkeys, The Editors, Cold War kids, Arcade Fire, The Enemy etc etc etc... you get the idea, and frankly, as good as some of those albums may be, Its really boring me. It seems like its been a good 6 months since I've managed to find a good album I can just put in and play over and over, probably an indication of a growing boredom for the genre itself, rather than poor music produced?

I've always had a soft spot for electronic / electro chillout music, The Crystal Method, Nathan Fake, Chemical Brothers (some). I suppose what Im saying is, having listened to nothing but generic overplayed indie for so long, I’m kinda lost in find that one good album again that I can play all the way through, over and over. If anyones got any recommendation of a good compilation / album etc I'd really appreciate your input. I looking really for recommendations along the electronic genre I suppose, but Im pretty much open to most suggestions that arent Rap, Screamo music, or heavy rock!

The Smiths. The Daddy of all bands indie. If you get into them you can listen to nothing else for months :)

Pfft! (from a massive smiths fan).. Pavement, daddy of all indie bands!.

Try some Animal Collective too (new album is a great introduction :) 'Strawberry Jam').

I think you should give bands like God is An Astronaut a listen. All Is Violent, All is Bright is a cracking album (especially the title track) and you can listen to it for free here: http://www.last.fm/music/God+Is+an+Astronaut/All+Is+Violent,+All+Is+Bright

You'll find plenty of stuff on the Lost Children label, who offer free album downloads of electronic/ambient/post-rock and more (all legal): http://lostchildrennetlabel.wordpress.com/ 'The Silent Ballet' compilations are a good start there, here is the most recent: http://lostchildrennetlabel.wordpress.com/2007/10/23/the-silent-ballet-compilation-volume-6/ (track 10 by The Evpatoria Report, a post-rock band, is one of my faves of last year)

I'd also recommend the first, and new, albums by British Sea Power. Their new one keeps getting compared to Arcade Fire which is annoying as Arcade Fire were called the "Canadian British Sea Power" before they became more famous than them. BSP are better though, and more interesting and varied. No Lucifer is a good one from the new album, but I haven't heard it all yet as it hasn't arrived from HMV.

I could go on but I'll leave it at that for now. I hope you like! :D

Have a listen to Chromeo's albums Fancy Footwork and She's in Control and also Simbian Mobile Disco - Attack Decay Sustain Release and Dimitri from Paris - In The House of Love.

All pretty different genres but all great music.

Every Smiths album had weak moments. Morrisey.

An explanation: the music is great, I just can't stand his voice.

I was in the exact same position as yourself with usual indie bands (although I still keep going back to the usuals!).

Have a listen to Biffy Clyro.

Also, Foy Vance is without a doubt worth a big listen. His album, Hope, is fantastic. Check him out.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EsHGpIH58k
