Ive got a big detail comming up with a freind, and we are looking for some sort of structure to the day. We have come up with something along the lines of;

* Wheels off 1 at a time - clean wheels & arches etc then seal wheels
* Foam (Megs hyper wash & Gilmour gun)
* Rinse
* Foam & wash at same time
* Rinse
* Clay
* Wash
* Cut (if needed) (Menzerna RD3.02 using CCS Light cut pad on Megs R220)
* Polish (Menz 85RD using CCS polishing pad on R220))
* Seal/glaze (maybe)(buffed off with CCS glazing pad on R220)
* Wax (Blackfire Midnight Sun Ivory applied with German applicator
* Stand back and admire handiwork
* Collapse in a heap cos it'll be 3am and too dark to take pics

It's a platinum silver MGF being done if that makes any difference....

I'd be glad of any advice

Sounds good :) , you may have already realized this but I would seal the wheels after you have foamed the rest of the car, unless your leaving all the wheels off and using axle stands :) .

Ben.

sounds busy! I normally attempt this once a week on my own and get to step 6 before giving up.

Do two of you have machine polishers? if not i'd be tempted for one to do the wheels whilst the other polishes, it takes me ages to clean and seal wheels. (they are nasty 15 spokes and you could perform surgery on them afterwards though)

Only one of use has a Megs R220 during this detail, the plan is for one of us to cut and one of us to do the wheels. They will be sealed with Poorboys Wheel Sealant. Yes going to be very very busy day around 12 hrs work for two of us.

What are your thoughts on the process bearing in mind its Silver. I have been told "if it's silver leave the wax out and go for three layers of sealant instead, wax will dull the finish"

Im not so sure about this?

Sounds like a plan. When you say Seal Wheels - what does this entail and what are the benefits?

They protect them from brake dust, and becomes easy to wash off over a period of time, its just a case of spraying them with hose and the dust will wash away as it does not cling to the metal as there is a protective barrier there.

I theory :p I still have to use the minimum of megs 10:1 APC and a brush to get mine clean

They would never need strong solutions like wonder wheels though. Plus it would take the sealant straight off.

I do use wonder wheels on mine, but not on this detail once the wheels are sealed they will have a gentle blast with the hose and maybe some alloy cleaner if they need it but i doubt it.

Any any thoughts on the sealant rather than the wax etc or best for silver?

come on surely there some detailing people in OCUK who know what they are talking about?

me either, however i was hopeing someone could confirm this for me, ive never heard of silver being dulled by wax?

I think you'll struggle to do all that in one day, I machine polished my car and didn't manage to do all that in one day never mind taking the wheels off etc.
Are you using a Porter Cable or Rotary?

Megs R220 Porter Cable there are two of us doing it, both know what we are doing (we like to think) a good 12 hours on the car, It's my car which is a small two seater so i cant see a problem. No interior will be done as that is being done on a seperate day.

Sorry I misunderstood, I thought you meant 2 people, 2 cars. Still be a good days work for both of you.
Enjoy it :)

Your steps include using a sealant...so a carnauba wax like the blackfire over a sealant that is polymer-based could dull the finish. Really depends on your sealant or glaze.

Silver car you say, prepare to be underwhelmed as it will not look like 2 people have spent a full day cleaning it. :D;)
