Hi folks

Got a few days off next week and fancy a trip to Devon with my family and dog.

Does anyone know any nice places to stay and what area to go, preferably by the coast.

Thanks in advance.

brixham is nice...webby HERE

worth visiting:

Paignton Zoo

Dartmoor

exeter catherderal is quite nice, but not really a day out exactly...the town itself has some pretty areas, but most of the middle of it is a building site at the moment...

want any more info, all you gotta do is ask :)

If you are up for a trip to North Devon then Woolacombe is lovely. I used to live there. Give Ilfracombe, Comb Martin and Lynmouth a shot too.

correct me if Im wrong but theres a huge bay-come-beach in devon named Westward Ho ? beautiful there, but might be in Cornwall tbh, in any event its not far :)

Westward Ho! would be my suggestion. Close enough to Woolacoombe/Iltrafoombe, Clovelly, Barnstaple, etc etc, and the front at Westward Ho! is fun too :)

was in brixham at the weekend.
very nice. ferry across to torquay for more excitement.

definately not clubbing central though! :)

can name a great cheap guesthouse if you want.

^ agreed

wydmouth farm cottages are a nice place to stay.

Barnstaple's a decent place for shopping, and traffic :p
Torquay is a very nice place, and the general Torbay area.
There's a place called Tarr Steps on Exmoor, if memory serves correctly its near withypool.. fantastic scenery, if your kids are young (<12), i'm sure they'd enjoy it, I used to love it there as a kid having a picnic there with the whole family.

Depending on where you're staying, it might be worth paying a visit to Bude. There's plenty for kids to do there, especially splash! an indoor swimming pool with slides, a wave machine which operates every half hour if i remember rightly, and right next door is a new bowling alley :)

Westward ho! is great - I live there its not violent, totally laid back and has a very nice beach/golf course/cricket pitch/football pitch and wildlife like sheep not far. Its also not fair from Bideford center/Barstaple/Woolacombe and a few others mentioned.

this might not be all that helpful but I just went to brixham with the family and I thought it was rubbish, very tacky as is paignton, the beach at paignton is filthy and the town/shoppy type area is great if you want to buy some crap country and western cd or a tacky woodern carving of a wolf.

My advice? Either head up to my neck of the woods and go to bournemouth or keep going past devon and go to looe, somehow manages to be touristy without being just utter tack.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have booked a family hotel in Westward Ho! for 3 days next week and look forward to seeing some of the sights.....

Hope the weather holds out too.

I have heard that Devon is a top place to live, so may do some house spotting whilst I'm there. :)

Cool.. May i ask what hotel..I'l be able to give u my opinion on it :) (If its wanted of course)

The name of the hotel is Culloden House.

Please dont say its crap as we have booked it now.

Westward Ho! :) Is a nice enough place, used to go there a lot. These days I prefer to go up around the coast to Ilfracombe and Combe Martin, I'd recommend a day out visiting some of those towns further north of Westward Ho!

Good Luck with the weather
