Some people still haven't grasped that when politics and economics conflict, politics doesn't win.

I remember all the calls from the staunch Brexiteers before our vote that the EU was about to collapse imminently, Le Pen was going to win in France, Wilders in the Netherlands, Strache(?) in Austria, Salvini in Italy and all were going to follow the UK over the cliff with having their own 'exit

Well, of those, only Salvini's far right group got into any form of power and they immediately changed their tune from the anti-EU rhetoric of the campaign to "We have no intention of leaving the European Union or ditching the Euro" :p

They get your vote by telling you want you want to hear, but once in power they know which side their bread is buttered.

People said Trump wouldn't win. He did. People said Leave would never win. It did. People said the EU wouldn't survive...

Such insightful posting, truly i am awash with the glory it must have imbued to write such a concise literature on the times we live in, truly the work of a great artist.

It's been three years, and the Brexiteers loving denouncing the fearmongering over a supposed recession after we voted out as "not happening", yet their own fearmongering over the EU collapsing still hasn't come to fore either? strange.

So Germany don't control the EU and we aren't all under their rule?

People are saying France want out too, so clearly they don't either.

So who are the big bad bogeyman dictators that lord it all over us?

I was thinking the same. Unless the other countries are like Lemmings on a suicide mission.

They don't, though. Marine le Pen said in the last week that she's changed tack and thinks France is better served trying to alter the EU from within. While Brexiteers continue to crow about how the EU is doomed and we're just the first to go, we've actually made such a balls-up of it that everyone else wants to stay.

And the Brexiteers dreams continue to crumble into dust and blow away in the wind....

i predict we'll eventually stay in the EU, only to find we're the only ones left.

Then we'll be in charge with no-one dictating to us what to do and everyone will be happy! ;)

You'll still have brexiters claiming it is being run by the Germans and French!

Why blame your own countries problems on yourself when you can blame them on others and save yourself a bit of pride :p

So who is running the show then in the EU (honest question)?
Clearly when Greece was is trouble it was definitely the Germans who were setting the redlines on whether they got the bailout (which Germany would be a major contributor to the money going into that)

Germany runs the EU, no doubt there.

Don't you feel a little stupid, sitting in a thread talking about how Germany is going to leave the EU and also about how they run it?

Yeah, and since we know Germany has no overseas colonies, they just use the poor South-Eastern nations for colonies instead.

We talking about countries that voluntarily joined and voluntarily stay, these arguments are semi-boring. They can leave at any time.
