Dont suppose anyone here flew over to new york for a period in december / over xmas?

Im looking to take the family next xmas, looking to see how much things are at this time!

Also interested in this as a treat for the g/f in early decemeber.

She has always wanted to go and id love to take her for a week as part of her xmas presents.

Don't know if it helps but I was in Orlando for Christmas and New Year. Prices there were, in comparison with England, silly cheap at times. But then the exchange rate helped a hell of a lot. Even the Theme Parks and prices there were pretty good.

Any chance of getting around the maximum amount worth of goods by getting the shops to send you stuff as "gifts"? :)

Even "gifts" will get picked up by the customs guys if you're unlucky.

You could take stuff out of boxes - mail them back seperately if required - and carry new mp3/camera/laptop with some music/pics/files in it looking "used" and old.
Likewise, wear clothes at least once to make them look "old" too.

All tax EVASION tho', so dont' do it :)

I was tempted a while ago to ask one of my counterparts in the states to get hold of some stuff and send it over as gifts. Don't think they would say much if it's being posted by an individual with "Merry Xmas!" on an attached card :)

As for tax, I don't think anyone could be blamed for getting a few expensive bits a little cheaper this way. Looking at the tax part of my payslip every month makes me want to cry :(

We needed to buy an extra suitcase for the flight home due to the amount of clothes, shoes plus other things we bought. No one said a thing. Nearly picked up a PS3 to bring home but while I was deciding someone else bought it :( Also seeing as the limit is in Sterling and the exchange rate being what it is the amount of stuff you can bring back is crazy high :D
