Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
So, today I went to Cardiff and I dress like i normally do, jeans, Tshirt, and a Univesity Hoody Top. Went to House of Fraiser looking for a Gaggia Espresso machine as i know they have one on sale (which is still not cheap, it's £300 rrp). And I was in the Kitchen department looking for it, couldn't see it on the shelf therefore i went and ask the lady that works there who was just standing around. I ask if they have it in stock, and just the way she reply to me was really snappish and got a feeling that she thinks what am I doing here. I thought nothing of it until I notice when she was talking to another customers (who was dress in a jacket and trousers) much more polite and seem more helpful.

This kinda bugs me a little, I help my dad out sometimes in his resturant and I try to be polite to all the customers. Why should she treat me differently because I wasn't in smart clothing. I also notice that when I was working, which i wear a suit to work, I get treated a lot better in shops. Staff are more helpful, is this the way staff are trained now or something? Spot the ones that looks like they have money and squeeze them dry? May be it is just department stores, may be it's just me. But anyone found the same?

Probably.

You were wearing your uni hoody though, she might hate students :p

Students are typically poor too ;)

Depends on the people, when I work at the union bar at the university's theater, the customers talk to me like I am their inferior, very snobbish. Of course not all theater goers are like that, I am very close friends with a family that runs a theater school and they and the people that go there are cool people.

Just ignore the way they act, either that or punch her in the stomach so she gets on her knees, take your fella out and slap her a few times with it like a little **** she is. :)

Yea...it could be more than just your clothes.

Maybe you smell?

I doubt it, I step out of the shower at 3pm, was in there by 3:45. Probably the cleanest person in the store at the time.

I think you just had a one off bad experience with a member of staff. Experiment. Return and see if a different member of staff treats you the same.

BO can be a very powerful smell.

What were you expecting in the house of fraiser, most of their staff are stuck up. I avoid that shop like the plague personally.

I agree it is very unfair treating people on how they look (chavs exempt :p) as after all your just a human, and as long as your remotely smart i dont see what the problem should be.

I find that too...dress nicely and staff treat you better.

But ignoring students is dangerous. Students make 20% of people in Southampton and a lot of businesses would suffer if they disregarded them.

Actually tbh, when i used to work for a high street gaming chain, I would especially pay attention to those dresses in tracksuit bottoms tucked in socks and faux burberry, but for different reasons.

It really winds me up as well ray, I get it in the bar I work at, people who talk down to you and are snobbish for no reason, they will normally get a big "**** off" from me and a very sharp and abrupdt service from that point, where normally I would tend to have a laugh with the people I am serving

Haha, I don't have BO ! I shower 1 to 2 times a day, wash my hair everyday. :p
Acceptance is the first step in admitting you have a problem. Denial wont get you anywhere.

I can't say I've found the same, other than on very rare occasions, but maybe I just benefit from being older, and therefore treated more seriously. I will also say that it's VERY unprofessional to judge who has money by how they dress ..... or by how old they are.

Looks can be very deceptive. Not everybody that looks like they have money actually has it - they may just spend most of what they do have on clothes. Not everybody that looks like they don't have money actually doesn't have any - they may just not care about fashion or brands. Any sales person worthy of that name knows this.
